Best Screenprinted Movie Posters of 2014

Screenprinted movie posters continued to explode in 2014. I drool over so many posters every year, it’s very difficult to pick favorites. With movies, at least you know what you like and you don’t like. Why something works and why something doesn’t. Physical art is more subjective. Some art just hits people one way and others another. Such it is with pop culture posters. Maybe I love one subject more than another and that makes the art seem better. Maybe the art is absolutely incredible but, if I don’t connect with the subject, it’s harder to appreciate. Long story short, ranking them in any definitive ways seems futile.

That said, we figured it would be fun to at least call out a few of coolest screenprinted movie posters of 2014. Fifteen personal favorites that stand out, for one reason or another, to me. Posters are are beautiful, unique and make me remember their subject in a new, vivid way. Check out my favorite screenprinted movie posters of 2014 after the jump. Read More »

Joshua Budich - Empire

You may have noticed the upcoming issue of Empire Magazine Australia has a pretty unique and awesome cover. It’s an illustration of several popular and influential filmmakers, next to images from their films, all to commemorate a special “Director’s Cut” issue. Filmmakers such as Steven Spielberg, David Fincher, Joss Whedon, Francis Ford Coppola, Sofia Coppola, Michael Mann, David Lynch, John Woo, Danny Boyle, Guillermo del Toro and others contributed content to the issue, so a special cover was made.

The cover is by popular artist Joshua Budich and we talked to him about how it all came about. Below, check out the full image he submitted to Empire and read more about it. Read More »

Joshua Budich-Fictional Food

When you collect as much art as I do, you appreciate the little things. Literally. The smaller the piece, the better, so I can fit it on my wall. For others though, a small piece might be just the thing because it can show off your pop culture fandom without being too gaudy.

If that sounds good to you, artist Joshua Budich is happy to help. He’s currently selling a plethora of small 6 x 6 inch prints based on all kinds of pop culture references. There are multiple pieces in a new “Fictional Food” series which shows popular food from even more popular films. Plus, he’s created some small works of small, but popular, characters from the world of TV and film. And all of them are only $10 each. Below, see all of the available options and find out how to purchase them. Read More »

Dan Mumford - Jaws

Sheriff Brody might think Quint’s gonna need a bigger boat, but you’re gonna need a bigger house. “Why,” do you ask? How else could you possibly accommodate all of the incredible art in this week’s Jaws themed art show, “Smile You Son Of A Bitch?” It takes place for three days only, November 1-3, at the Hero Complex Gallery in Los Angeles, CA. Proceeds go to PangeaSeed, an activism group which raises awareness for the preservation and conservation of sharks.
