Teaser Trailer: ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’

This morning, if someone said “You’re going to be reading movie news about two films with the word “Lincoln” in the title today,” you would have laughed in their face.

However, hot off the heels of the big news about Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, we’ve now got your first look at footage from The Lincoln Lawyer. Not to be confused with those little blocks you played with as a kid, The Lincoln Lawyer is a murder mystery starring Matthew McConaughey, Ryan Phillippe, Marisa Tomei, William H. Macy, John Leguizamo, Michael Pena and Josh Lucas. Though Tommy Lee Jones was originally attached to direct, the job eventually went to Brad Furman, who directed 2007′s The Take.

Based on a novel by Michael Connelly, The Lincoln Lawyer looks like Primal Fear with a little more street as a lawyer who conducts business from the back of his Lincoln and gets wrapped up in a high profile case. Lionsgate will release The Lincoln Lawyer on March 18. Check it out the trailer the jump. Read More »

“The year this story takes place is the year nearly everything happened to me. It was the year I spent nearly all of my time having great sex with Mr. Anderson, my by-far favorite teacher.”

We haven’t known too much about Daydream Nation, the indie named after a Sonic Youth record, which stars Kat Dennings and Josh Lucas. We talked briefly about the casting when it cropped up, but now that the film is close to premiering at the Toronto Film Fest, there’s a trailer and some more info. Read More »

Life As We Know It
Warner Bros has released the first movie trailer for Everwood/The Broken Hearts Club helmer Greg Berlanti‘s romantic comedy Life As We Know It. Berlanti might be better known to /Film readers as the writer/producer of the Green Lantern movie, and the possible director of the big screen adaptation of The Flash. The movie stars Katherine Heigl, Josh Duhamel, Josh Lucas, and Christina Hendricks, in a story about “two single adults who become caregivers to an orphaned girl when their mutual best friends die in an accident.”

This is one of those trailer that totally shows you the entire movie. Not that I was ever planning to see this movie, but now I don’t really have to. I’ll admit, I did laugh at the Slumdog joke. Watch the trailer now after the jump. Please leave your thoughts in the comments below.

It’s been slow on the casting front since late December, when Hollywood pretty much shut down for the holidays. Now that everyone is back to work things are picking up slowly.

Christina Ricci has joined the cast of Bel Ami, which already stars Robert Pattinson and Uma Thurman. Based on Guy de Maupassant‘s short story ‘Bel Ami,’ the film will follow George Duroy (Pattinson), a young journalist who rose from poverty to become one of the most successful men in Paris via the ruthless and calculating bedding of the city’s most glamorous and influential women. Kristin Scott Thomas is also in the cast. Filming starts next month in Paris. [Production Weekly]

After the break, new work for Maggie Grace, Salma Hayek, Kat Dennings and Josh Lucas. Read More »

Huh? LeBron James? Yeah, you read that right. Today might be the slowest news day I can remember in 2009, I’m still not going to break each of these into their own story. Because how much do you really need to know about romances and fantasy basketball movies? Exactly this much. Read More »

Christopher Pike Josh Lucas

A couple days ago we ran a rumor that Kirk is NOT the Captain of the Enterprise in the new JJ Abrams Star Trek prequel/reboot (or at least for the first half of the film). We have yet to get a 100% confirmation on this rumor, but most people in the know believe this to be true. But Paramount has yet to announce the casting of Christopher Pike in last week’s casting announcements. IESB believes that a pre-injury Captain Pike may be played Josh Lucas.

PikeLucas played Craig McDermott in American Psycho, and has been more recently seen in A Beautiful Mind, Poseidon, Glory Road, and Stealth. Keep in mind, that also has not been confirmed. Paramount and Lucas’ reps are apparently not returning phone calls, so take that for whatever might be worth.

Pike, played first by Jeffrey Hunter, was a Captain in the original Star Trek pilot, which was rejected. The character appeared in a later episode titled “The Menagerie” (played then by Sean Kenney). Pike is the first Captain of the Enterprise recognized in Star Trek canon (to go into the non-canon background would be boring). The character was severely injured while rescuing several cadets from a baffle plate rupture onboard a J-class training vessel, and appeared in “The Menagerie” confined to a wheelchair. The delta ray radiation made him mute and badly scarred, so the wheelchair is operated by brainwaves. Pike communicated through a light on the chair: one flash meaning “yes” and two flashes indicating “no”.
