This year we’ll get to see the first feature adaptation of a Thomas Pynchon novel, which is amazing. The film is directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, which is even better. Now we’ve got a full-size version of the first official still from Inherent Vice. The image shows Joaquin Phoenix as burnout “detective” Doc Sportello, as he has a moment with hard-ass cop “Bigfoot” Bjornson, played by Josh Brolin. Check out the official Inherent Vice image below. The worst kept secret in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was identity of the actor playing Thanos. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige admitted years ago Thanos would be in Guardians of the Galaxy, and months before release news broke that Oscar nominee Josh Brolin would play the character. Even though the official announcement wasn’t made until Comic-Con, Feige and director James Gunn both talked at length about the actor before release.
But now that it’s officially official, Brolin himself can talk about it. And the fact he’s promoting Sin City: A Dame to Kill For makes that possible. One outlet in particular got the actor to open up about his new role and he talked about how it got it, what he plans to do with it, how far in advance he knows what’s going on and more. Read the Josh Brolin Thanos quotes below. Read More »
When Josh Brolin took the stage at San Diego Comic-Con wearing an Infinity Gauntlet, it wasn’t a surprise. Though Marvel had been very coy as to the identity of the actor who now plays the “mad titan” Thanos, the news broke a few months earlier. Plus, once you see Guardians of the Galaxy, he’s right there on screen, pulling the strings. Thanos doesn’t have a big role in this film, but he will moving ahead, which is why Marvel cast an actor like Brolin.
With Guardians of the Galaxy now in theaters, Marvel has finally released an official image of Brolin as Thanos. It’s a character you’re sure to become very familiar with as the Marvel Cinematic Universe transitions into Phase Three in 2015. Check out the Josh Brolin Thanos photo below. Read More »
A lot has changed since I spoke to James Gunn roughly two weeks ago. In that time his new film, Guardians of the Galaxy, has become the one of the hottest topics in popular culture. It’s getting so popular, in fact, that Marvel has already greenlit Gunn’s next film, Guardians of the Galaxy 2. But two weeks ago, that wasn’t a certainty. The writer director was just happy that people, this journalist included, liked the film so much and wanted to talk to him about it.
In our interview, we talked about balancing the films impulses between action, humor and emotion; the fact he’s so active on social media and how Marvel feels about that; the introduction of Thanos (Josh Brolin) and some of his friends; Nathan Fillion‘s cameo; the humor in the movie, and more including the whereabouts of that classic blue Walkman. UPDATE: We’ve added the new, red band Sin City: A Dame to Kill For trailer to this post, which played at the end of the panel. Full panel coverage remains.
Robert Rodriguez and Comic Con go together like Spielberg and sharks. The two are forever linked because of the memorable panels he’s had on multiple films, primarily the first Sin City. Well Rodriguez was back this year with Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Damn to Kill For and he brought along his co-director and three of the film’s stars: Josh Brolin, Rosario Dawson and Jessica Alba.
They showed a huge chunk of the beginning of the film, “Just Another Saturday Night,” and did a very interesting Q&A. Below, read a description of the opening scene and five cool things we learned at the Sin City 2 Comic Con panel. Read More »

It’s a big day for Josh Brolin. Not only was he revealed as the actor voicing Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy and future Marvel films, he’s booked a gig in one of the next films from Prisoners and Enemy director Denis Villeneuve. The movie in question is Sicario, a “dark, morally complex thriller about a Tucson cop (Emily Blunt) who teams up with two men to head into Mexico and capture a drug lord” scripted by Taylor Sheridan.
