It’s everyone’s favorite thing: a first look at footage from a new movie thanks to the talking heads at Entertainment Tonight. This is a preview of a trailer, but for those who want to know what Step Up 3D director Jon M. Chu has done with his sequel to Paramount and Hasbro’s action figure action movie, it’ll have to do for now.
The full trailer for G.I. Joe: Retaliation will be available tomorrow, and we’ve got some early reactions thanks to the audience at Harry Knowles’ Butt-numb-a-thon, the thirteenth instance of which ran this weekend. The trailer was previewed to that audience, and the reactions I saw on Twitter were uniformly positive. Our own Peter Sciretta said “Just saw the trailer for @jonmchu’s GI Joe 2 — this movie looks like everything I could ever hope it to be… Seriously!”
We’ll give you the full trailer as soon as possible, but for now enjoy this brief glimpse of some action, a sword, The Rock and Bruce Willis. Read More »

Update: GI Joe 2 star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has tweeted a confirmation that Bruce Willis has officially signed on to the cast in G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation. Original story follows.
Earlier this summer, we briefly mentioned a report that Bruce Willis was at the top of the wishlist for a certain role in G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation. Now it seems someone’s wishes are one step closer to coming true. Willis has entered talks to board G.I. Joe 2 in the part of General Joe Colton, the original G.I. Joe. In the ’80s comic book series, the character is the one who forms the G.I. Joe strike team.
Directed by Jon M. Chu and produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, G.I. Joe 2 will be the second installment in the film franchise based on the iconic line of toys. Read more after the jump.

Jon M. Chu‘s G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation is now shooting, and we know this because The Rock tells us it is so. He told us via Twitter, saying “1st day of shooting. 110 degrees. Bring It.” Along with that missive came an image of the actor in costume as Roadblock. And, while this barely counts as news, Dwayne Johnson earned a lot of good will with his constantly perspiring turn in Fast Five, so let’s give him another moment in (ahem) the sun. Read More »

One of the actors to really start to break from TV into consistent film acting in the past couple years is Walton Goggins. His work on The Shield lead to a handful of notable film roles. (He was fun in Predators and had a good, if brief turn in the excellent and under-seen That Evening Sun.) His more recent gig on Justified and body of work in general has led to Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln.
Being cast in G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation may not seem like as big a deal as being in Lincoln, but it might ensure that Goggins is in front of a few people who won’t see Lincoln. Variety announces that he’ll play Warden Nigel James in Jon Chu‘s sequel to the 2007 screen outing for the Joes. Read More »

The latest on Jon M. Chu‘s G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes is that the picture has a villain: Ray Stevenson (Punisher: War Zone, Rome, Thor) will play Cobra contract killer and saboteur Firefly in the movie, which begins shooting in Louisiana a few weeks from now.
He joins Channing Tatum, Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, Elodie Yung, RZA and D.J. Cotrona. A few details about the character Firefly are after the break. Read More »

Jon M. Chu and the producers of G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes keep expanding the cast of the Joe sequel. They’ve retained a few actors from the first film: Channing Tatum, Ray Park and Byung Hun-lee, and have roped in a couple of significant new cast members, notably Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock. RZA is on board, too, and now Adrianne Palicki from Friday Night Lights, who got some good notes for her work in the Wonder Woman pilot that NBC decided to can, will play the female lead: Lady Jaye.
