Robert Smigel’s TV Funhouse cartoons have been a hit on Saturday Night Live for years. Paramount among them is The Ambiguously Gay Duo, a hilarious animated superhero team that may, or may not, be gay and this weekend on SNL audiences finally got to see Ace and Gary, along with all of their super-villain enemies, in the flesh. The result looked like the Comedy Central, NBC dream team come to life featuring Jon Hamm, Jimmy Fallon, Steve Carell, Ed Helms and Stephen Colbert. Check it out after the break. Read More »

That’s right. There are now enough trailers for Bridesmaids that some of you may have lost count. Paul Feig‘s film, written by Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo, is a great comedy with more personality and character than you could hope for, and a lot of soul, to boot. But there are as many trailers now as there are main characters. (And this new one isn’t even the best of them.)

But what the hell: if you’ve missed all the other trailers for the film so far, and want to see a little more of Jon Hamm‘s less than gentlemanly behavior, check it out after the break along with a special character poster for each of the main characters. Read More »

The best comedy of the year hasn’t even been released yet, but I think that when Bridesmaids hits on May 13 it will quickly be hailed as both a very funny movie and a film with more depth than we’ve come to expect from the raunchy R-rated comedy.

To whet your appetite a bit further, here’s a new international trailer to complement the two domestic trailers. It kicks off with one of the most awkward scenes in the film — minor spoiler alert! — in which Jon Hamm, having spent the night with Kristen Wiig, tries to get out of acting like a boyfriend. Check it out after the break. Read More »

Last night I saw a work-in-progress screening of the Judd Apatow-produced Paul Feig-directed comedy Bridesmaids.

While he is beloved by television fanatical/Film readers, Feig is probably the last remaining member of the Apatow clan to not have a break-out film career. Feig is probably best known for creating the short-lived HBC television series Freaks and Geeks, which has gone on to become a cult classic (including a spot in Time Magazines’ greatest shows of all time and the 13th best show in the past 25 years according to Entertainment Weekly). Paul has since directed 13 episodes of the US version of The Office, 8 episodes of Arrested Development, and a couple episodes of Weeds, Bored to Death, 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation and Mad Men. His 2006 family film Unaccompanied Minors was critically destroyed and failed to attract excitement at the box office.

While this screening was marketed as a work-in-progress (something we don’t usually review), Feig revealed on stage pre-screening that the cut we saw was “the final cut” of the movie, only lacking a sound effect or two and a couple minor color timing tweaks. So what did I think? Read my thoughts after the jump!

The instant it was announced that Zack Snyder would be directing a new Superman film, fans everywhere started screaming for Jon Hamm. The award-winning Mad Men actor certainly looks the part, plus he’d been working with Snyder on his latest film Sucker Punch. But though it initially seemed Snyder was looking for someone middle-aged, eventually it was revealed that Hamm, who’ll be 40 in March, was too old for the role.

In a recent interview with MTV, Hamm commented on this, confirming he’d talked to Snyder about it in passing but has been aged out of the roll, calling it a “young man’s game.” See video of the comment and do a little speculating after the jump. Read More »

A test screening for the new Judd Apatow-produced Paul Feig-directed comedy Bridesmaids took place tonight in southern California. The film is written by Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo, and tells the story of two feuding bridesmaids played by Rose Byrne and Kristen Wiig. Also starring Maya Rudolph as the bride, and a supporting cast that consists of Jon Hamm, Matt Lucas, Ellie Kemper, Dianne Wiest and others.

And despite the Bridewars sounding logline, the reunion of Apatow and Feig (who worked together on the now cult classic television series Freaks and Geeks) and the hilarious female cast, has many excited. So what is the early word? Find out now after the jump!

First Look: Megan Fox in ‘Friends With Kids’

Here’s the first image of Megan Fox from the romantic drama Friends With Kids. It’s not a very exciting pic, but it’s notable for placing the actress squarely in a dramatic role, rather than a sexed-up mode. You might not remember details on this one; it’s the film featuring Jon Hamm, whose partner Jennifer Westfeldt wrote, and is directing, producing and appearing in the film. Adam Scott and Kristen Wiig are also in the cast.

The image comes from Megan Fox’s own Facebook page, which is also the source of a couple behind the scenes images that are after the break. Read More »
