Now that Jon M. Chu is finally done with G.I. Joe: Retaliation, he can turn his attention to other projects. For fans, tops on that list is the He-Man reboot Masters of the Universe. Chu was revealed as the director of the film back in July 2012, but hasn’t had time to truly concentrate on it, thanks to his extra-long post-production duties on Joe. With Retaliation out in the wild, Chu uses a new interview to provide an update on Masters of the Universe. Unfortunately, that update sounds quite similar to what he said in October of last year.

Last spring, Paramount made the surprising decision to delay G.I. Joe: Retaliation by nine months, from June 2012 to March 2013, so that it could be converted to 3D. Now, in just a couple of months, we’ll find out whether that costly last-minute change was worth it.
The latest trailer tries to hype up the new 3D with plenty of ninja-tastic action. But to really get a sense of how the whole 3D thing has worked out for Paramount and MGM you may want to buy a ticket to this weekend’s Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, as it’ll screen with a four-minute 3D preview of G.I. Joe Retaliation. Read more details and watch the new promo after the jump.

Director Jon M. Chu has quickly become one of those directors whose quotes you need to read. After gaining notoriety with the Step Up movies and Justin Bieber documentary, Paramount entrusted him with one of their marquee franchises: G.I. Joe. Then Sony handed him the reigns to another potential franchise, Masters of the Universe. That’s a nice step up (pun intended) from dance TV shows.
In a new interview, Chu offered some significant updates on the status of G.I. Joe Retaliation, which was delayed so that (reportedly) the director could convert the film to 3D, as well as on Masters of the Universe, which is based on the popular Eighties cartoon and toy line .
