The Punisher release date

The trailers and ads for The Punisher have been chock full of violence, gore, and intrigue, but they’re all missing one thing: the release date.

Marvel and Netflix have been frustratingly withholding of the newest street-hero series’ premiere date, following Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders. But it may be thanks to an innocuous write-up of the upcoming first season that we may finally know The Punisher release date.

Jon Bernthal‘s Frank Castle was the highlight of the uneven Daredevil season 2. Marvel’s unhinged vigilante can be a tough nut to crack (and incredibly boring when cracked incorrectly), but this take on the character, deranged and broken and terrifying, felt like a home run. At least it felt like a home run during his limited screen time in a show about another Marvel hero. Now, we’ll have to see if he can hold up in an entire series built around him.

The first full The Punisher trailer has arrived online, offering an extended look at the latest Marvel series hitting Netflix this year.

I’m not saying John Wick is the only emotionally fraught vigilante who’s allowed to dramatically smash concrete with a sledgehammer in a scene of violent catharsis, but this particular slice of imagery from the first official The Punisher trailer demands the comparison.

The first teaser for the upcoming Netflix series premiered at the tail end of The Defenders, which arrived on the streaming service early this morning. It’s online now, showcasing Jon Bernthal is all of his glowering, floor-smashing glory.

Baby Driver - Baby (Ansel Elgort) in mirror

Baby Driver took SXSW by storm this past March, earning such high praise (it’s currently sitting at a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, with 22 reviews in) that distributor Sony was inspired to bump its release up from a sleepy August weekend to a prime June spot.

But we didn’t know any of that was going to happen in April 2016, when the studio invited us to visit the film’s Atlanta set. All we knew at that time was that Baby Driver was the new Edgar Wright movie – and considering his track record, that in itself felt like reason enough to get excited. And what we learned on set rocketed the film to the top of our most-anticipated list.
