Punisher crossover

Ever since Jon Bernthal made his debut as the Punisher in Daredevil season two, fans have been eager to find out when we’ll see him next. We know for sure he’s getting his own The Punisher solo series, but not when it’ll debut. And then there’s the question of whether he might resurface before then. Is it possible he’ll pop up in one of the other Netflix-Marvel shows, like Iron Fist or The Defenders?

No one official is saying, but recently a small detail about Bernthal’s schedule has led to speculation about Netflix’s future plans for the Punisher character.  Read More »

Clive Owen in BMW Films' The Escape (The Hire) directed by Neill Blomkamp

Before The Knick or Children of Men or Inside Man or even The Bourne Identity, Clive Owen was best known to U.S. audiences as The Driver, the nameless and unflappably cool hero of BMW’s short film series The Hire. The projects yielded eight installments in total, released from 2001 to 2002, and attracted a variety of high-profile filmmakers from Ang Lee to Alejandro González Iñárritu.

Now, fifteen years later, the Driver is getting ready to get back on the road. Owen has teamed up with director Neill Blomkamp for another BMW short film, The Escape. This one co-stars Dakota Fanning, Vera Farmiga, and Jon Bernthal, and looks positively jam-packed with big, shiny action. Check out a teaser — and revisit some of our favorite episodes from the past — below the jump.  Read More »

Chris Pratt Wants Star-Lord To Meet The Punisher

star-lord and the punisher

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is filled with exciting possibilities. Part of the enormous fun in The Avengers films or Captain America: Civil War is seeing these heroes interact with each other, and seeing how their personalities clash in those interchanges. But if you ask Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt, the character he would be most interested in seeing Star-Lord meeting on the big screen would have to be The Punisher.

Accountant pic

Director Gavin O’Connor (Warrior) last boarded a moving train with Jane Got a Gun, a project that was plagued with problems before he arrived on set. The Western quickly disappeared from theaters this year, but it’s hard to blame O’Connor, who typically delivers quality dramas. The director’s new film, The Accountant, opens in theaters later this year. The thriller stars Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, Jean Smart, Jeffrey Tambor, and John Lithgow.

Netflix Orders Marvel’s ‘Punisher’ Spinoff

Punisher

Even before the Punisher made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the second season of Daredevil, rumors abounded about the possibility of a Punisher spinoff. He’s a popular character to begin with, after all, and Jon Bernthal couldn’t be a better choice to play him. Then the character actually appeared on the show, and proved to be everything fans had hoped for. The calls for a Punisher spinoff only got louder. And now, Marvel is finally ready to make its move.

A Punisher spinoff has reportedly been ordered by Marvel, with Bernthal set to return as the vigilante character. Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal) will write, executive produce, and serve as showrunner. Read More »

Daredevil Season 2

The first season of Daredevil had a damn good villain in Wilson Fisk — one of the best in the MCU, along with Loki and Kilgrave. So how does the show top that in season 2? Well, by bringing on not one but two classic figures to antagonize our poor beleaguered devil of Hell’s Kitchen: a hardcore vigilante known as the Punisher, played by Jon Bernthal, and a dangerous former flame called Elektra, played by Elodie Yung.

The final trailer for Daredevil season 2 debuted earlier this week, but today Netflix served up another little taste of the trials and tribulations to come in the form of a new featurette. This one focuses on Daredevil and the Punisher, with Bernthal and Charlie Cox on hand to talk up their characters. Watch the Daredevil season 2 featurette after the jump.  Read More »

Cool Posts From Around the Web:

Daredevil Season 2 release date

We’re just days away from the second season of Daredevil, and by now you probably already know whether you’re in or you’re out. If you tore through season one and can’t wait to return to Hell’s Kitchen, you’ve surely cleared your weekend schedule so you can binge without restriction; if you didn’t care for season one, you probably haven’t bothered keeping up with all the updates on season two anyway.

But just in case a few of you need a nudge into the “in” column, Netflix and Marvel are getting in one last Daredevil trailer just under the wire. And yes, it’s got plenty of Jon Bernthal as the new Punisher and Elodie Yung as the new Elektra. Stick (Scott Glenn), Claire (Deborah Ann Woll), and Foggy (Elden Henson) all make appearances as well. Oh, and Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) is there, too. daredevil season 2 teaser

Daredevil season 2 arrives on Netflix in a little over a week and I’m already planning to binge the entire thing in a sitting or two. After all, I’m still high over how much I enjoyed Jessica Jones and the early reviews for this new season suggest that everything that worked about about the first 13 episodes continues to work here. Heck, I’m already planning to have a deep dive on the entire season ready to go the Monday after the premiere. I do this because I care.

And I also do this because there’s a lot of promising stuff going on in Daredevil this season, especially the additions of Jon Bernthal‘s Frank Castle and Elodie Yung‘s Elektra to the cast. A new teaser has arrived highlighting these new additions, giving us a nice look at their costumes and offering everyone in the comments section something new to fight about.

punisher costume

The first season of Netflix’s Daredevil took ages to put Charlie Cox in costume, only giving the devil of Hell’s kitchen proper superhero duds in the season finale (and for a single action scene). And even then, the outfit was controversial, with some fans grumbling that he should have just stuck with the pirate pajamas look from the rest of the season.

The mixed reactions to Matt Murdock’s uniform haven’t stopped fans from wondering if season two’s new characters, Frank Castle (better known as the Punisher) and Elektra Natchios (better known as, uh, Elektra) would get to wear their classic costumes. A newly released poster answers that question: yes. For the most part.
