Video games and movies have never had a happy marriage. Good games rarely become good movies and good movies rarely become good games. But there had to be a sweet spot, and Disney has found it. That sweet spot is Wreck-It Ralph, a movie set in the world of video games, but not bound by any one in particular. It’s a smart, fun, entertaining film for the whole family that constantly surprises and provides laughs while always focusing on its clever, heartwarming story. And while a knowledge of Sega, Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft isn’t essential, it surely enhances the journey of a would-be hero figuring out who he really is… as he ventures through a candy themed racing game. It’s the best animated Disney movie of the year and one of the best video game movies of all time.

Some might find it hard to believe that five years ago, the phrase “Boats and Hoes” was not part of the popular vernacular. The 2008 comedy Step Brothers changed all that. Directed by Adam McKay and starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, Step Brothers became the definitive comedy of a generation. Okay, not really. For most of us, Step Brothers is simply a funny, enjoyable comedy. But for others, it has, in fact, become a wildly popular film that’s relentlessly quoted, turned into memes, gifs, soundboards, t-shirts and more.

To celebrate the 4th anniversary of the film, because why not, Gallery 1988 in Venice, CA is opening a massive exhibit of Step Brothers themed art August 31. It’ll be on dispaly thorugh September 22 but, after the jump, you can see a bunch of the work right now. Read More »

We’re looking forward to Wreck-It Ralph because it boasts an entertaining premise, top-notch comic talents, and fun imagery, but no doubt one of the aspects Disney execs are most excited for is the opportunity to sell a whole lot of branded toys this holiday season. While some recent blockbusters have struggled to find appropriate marketing tie-ins (sorry, but in no timeline do the Men in Black have anything to do with Baskin-Robbins), the merchandising opportunities for the video game-themed Wreck-It Ralph are practically built right in.

Disney unveiled its upcoming line of Wreck-It Ralph toys at their Holiday Gifts Preview event, and in the process introduced some more of the secondary figures who fill out Ralph’s universe. Get a glimpse of the new characters (in toy form) after the jump.
