Depending on what you want out of Robert Rodriguez, this first trailer for Spy Kids: All the Time in the World may either instill dismay (“he made this instead of a ‘real’ movie?”) or happiness (“if he wants to make this, then let someone else do Deadpool“). This looks like a Canadian promo for the film — check the Alliance logo where the Weinstein-related one should be — but I imagine it is very similar to the US trailer we’re likely to see. Check it out below. Read More »

Sony and Aardman Animation have teamed for a new 3D stop-motion animated film, called The Pirates! Band of Misfits, based in part on Gideon Defoe‘s book The Pirates! In an Adventure With Scientists. (Which is also the film’s title in the UK, I believe.) That isn’t news, but the first still, above, and the announcement of the full cast definitely is.

Aardman co-founder and Chicken Run co-director Peter Lord is directing the film, which is animated in the now-classic Aardman clay figure style, and he’s got Hugh Grant making his clay debut as the chap you see above. There are a bunch of other great names on hand to provide voices as well, and you can get the full list after the break. Read More »

I Melt With You stars Thomas Jane, Jeremy Piven, Rob Lowe and Christian McKay as four best friends who meet up for a reunion to drink, do drugs and take a vacation from their daily lives. Carla Gugino and Sasha Grey are featured, it has opening credits akin to Gaspar Noe’s Enter the Void, an incredible (but possibly temporary) punk rock soundtrack and an awesome beach house setting. Sounds great, right? Unfortunately, as directed by Mark Pellington, I Melt With You is a over-indulgent, bloated, valueless film that’s among the worst I’ve seen so far at the Sundance Film Festival. On Monday we showed you a brief character clip of Rob Lowe from I Melt With You, the new film from Mark Pellington (Arlington Road, Henry Poole is Here). Four more were released this week, and now that the final clip is out (a NSFW one featuring Sasha Grey) we’ve collected the latter four for your perusal. See ‘em all after the break. Read More »

‘I Melt With You’ Teaser Trailer

I Melt With You is the next film from Mark Pellington (Arlington Road, Henry Poole is Here) and will debut soon at the Sundance Film Festival. Below you’ll find the first of a series of very brief teasers for the film. This one features Rob Lowe, seemingly in a mode of quiet distress. We’ve known all along that this was intended to be an emotionally intense, perhaps even harrowing film. This very brief clip makes me wonder what we’ll see are more are released over the course of this week. My curiosity remains engaged.  Read More »

Anyone clamoring for another wild 3D romp from the mind of Robert Rodriguez is in luck. Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World is now shooting in Austin, Texas in anticipation of a August 19, 2011 release date. Rodriguez is not only directing from his own screenplay but will also serve as producer, director of photography, editor and visual effects supervisor. The film stars Jessica Alba as a retired secret agent, married to Joel McHale, who is called back into action when the the villainous Timekeeper (played by Jeremy Piven) threatens to take over the world. It’ll also feature the return of Antonio Banderas, Danny Trejo and the original Spy Kids Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara, though they aren’t the stars. Read the full plot description and more after the jump. Read More »

Mark Pellington is putting together a not-so-obvious cast for his upcoming small-budget thriller, I Melt With You. The director already has Jeremy Piven and Thomas Jane, which left two big roles to cast. Now one of them has been filled by Rob Lowe. Read More »

While I went in hopeful, I ended up hating Mark Pellington‘s last film, Henry Poole is Here. Hated it enough that hearing that the screenwriter, Albert Torres, had been hired to rewrite the live-action Akira adaptation all but killed my scant interest in that project.

But I’ve heard very good things about Pellington’s work on U2 3D (maybe not a surprise, given his music video background) and thought there was potential on display in earlier features like Arlington Road and The Mothman Prophecies. I’d like to see Pellington realize that potential, and wonder if I Melt With You, an ‘ensemble thriller’ that may now count Thomas Jane and Jeremy Piven among the cast, might be the ticket.
