As a man who moved from New York to Los Angeles with dreams of Hollywood glory in my head, today is a great day. Warner Bros. has given to the green light to the movie version of Entourage, the HBO series that ran from 2004-2011. Mark Wahlberg executive produced the show based on his own life.
The show starred Adrian Grenier as Vinnie Chase, a popular actor who brought his three childhood friends E (Kevin Connolly), Drama (Kevin Dillon) and Turtle (Jerry Ferrara) to Los Angeles to ride the wave of stardom and pal around with his agent Ari (Jeremy Piven).
Doug Ellin, who created the series, will write and direct the film. The movie doesn’t have a start date at this point. Read More »

Briefly: As if the cast for Robert Rodriguez‘s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For wasn’t impressive enough, three more stars have been added: a Goodfella, Catwoman’s accomplice and Ari Gold. Ray Liotta, Juno Temple and Jeremy Piven have been cast in the film joining the likes of Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Jaime King, Josh Brolin, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Dennis Haysbert and Jamie Chung.
Who exactly each will play, or exactly how large each role is, remains unclear. But when the sequel to the 2005 film hits on September 13, they’ll be there. [The Playlist]

You’d be forgiven for suffering from pirate fatigue after this year’s lackluster fourth entry in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, but these delightful trailers for Aardman Animation’s The Pirates! Band of Misfits prove there’s still plenty of fun to be found on the high seas.
Directed by Peter Lord and Jeff Newitt, the stop motion adventure follows an eager but misguided Pirate Captain (Hugh Grant) as he competes for the Pirate of the Year Award — because, as he explains, “Every time I’ve entered, I’ve failed to win. So, I must have a really good chance this time.” Along the way, he and his similarly off-kilter crew (Martin Freeman, Brendan Gleeson, Russell Tovey, Ashley Jensen, and a fish with a hat on it) encounter all manner of strange characters including lepers, stuffy scientists, an evil queen (Imelda Staunton), and at least one monkey butler. Watch the trailer after the jump.

Can you resist the grinning appeal of a new claymation animated film from Aardman Animation? I’m not certain that I can, if the first trailer for The Pirates! Band of Misfits is any indication. The film adapts Gideon Defoe‘s book The Pirates! In an Adventure With Scientists — a loopy tale of high-seas misadventure and scientfic discovery — with a vocal cast that includesHugh Grant, Martin Freeman, David Tennant, Imelda Staunton, Jeremy Piven, Salma Hayek, Brian Blessed, Brendan Gleeson, Russell Tovey, and Ashley Jensen.
Here’s a new UK trailer for the film, which bears the original subtitle ‘In an Adventure With Scientists,’ and pushes the overall story structure more than the last US trailer, but keeps the levels of charm and appeal as high as the crow’s nest. Read More »

Last week we dropped the red-band trailer for I Melt With You, Mark Pellington‘s incredibly divisive thriller about four longtime pals (Rob Lowe, Tom Jane, Jeremy Piven, and Christian McKay) who get together once a year for debauched, drug-fueled gatherings. Underlying the merriment, however, is a deeply disturbing secret that could change all of their lives.
If that trailer’s NSFW cursing and drug usage stopped you from checking it out last time, don’t worry — we have a green-band trailer for you today that’s pretty much the same thing with the F-bombs and cocaine edited out. Check it out after the jump.

There are films I want to watch because they’re universally beloved, others I want to watch out of a morbid curiosity because they’re widely reviled, and then, occasionally, there are those that pique my curiosity because they seem to be a little bit of both. Perhaps the most divisive film out of this year’s Sundance was Mark Pellington‘s I Melt With You, a dramatic thriller about four longtime male friends (Rob Lowe, Tom Jane, Jeremy Piven, and Christian McKay) suffering from midlife crises who escape together for debauched gatherings. Which makes it sound like a crappy Tim Allen comedy, but apparently it’s all very serious and there’s a disturbing twist that turns the film into something deeply fucked up. Watch the red-band trailer and see the poster after the jump.

Aardman Animation doesn’t just have the CGI holiday film Arthur Christmas to release in the next year. The company also has the stop-motion The Pirates! Band of Misfits, based in part on Gideon Defoe‘s book The Pirates! In an Adventure With Scientists. The cast was announced not long ago, and is a thing of beauty: Hugh ‘News of the World Killer’ Grant, Martin Freeman, David Tennant, Imelda Staunton, Jeremy Piven, Salma Hayek, Brian Blessed, Brendan Gleeson, Russell Tovey, and Ashley Jensen.
The trailer for the film hit today, and if you are (a) dissatisfied with the Pirates of the Caribbean sequels, (b) hungry for anything new from Aardman, (c) ready to see a weirdly appropriate use of a Ramones song in a kids’ pirate movie, or (d) all of the above, check it out after the break. The new television season isn’t quite upon us yet, but the networks have definitely started gearing up. HBO’s just released an extended trailer for the eighth (and last) season of its escapist Hollywood fantasy Entourage, set to premiere in two weeks.
[UPDATE: Sadly, it turns out that the Walking Dead video posted below is fan-made and not an official teaser. Original story follows.] Over at AMC, the producers behind The Walking Dead have only recently begun casting for its new characters, but a recently released photo and now a brand-new teaser promise that the next season will be just as zombie-tastic as the last. Watch both trailers after the jump.
