Tom Hardy Looking to Scale ‘Everest’ With Doug Liman

If you’re going to make a movie about a guy who attempted one of the most difficult feats known to man not once, not twice, but three separate times, you’re going to need an actor who actually looks up to the challenge. On that front, it’s tough to think of many better picks than Tom Hardy. The Dark Knight Rises star has entered early talks for Doug Liman‘s Everest, an adaptation of Jeffrey Archer‘s fact-based novel Paths of Glory. More details after the jump.

Yet another Jeffrey Archer-based project is in the works, the third announced this month. Bourne director Doug Liman has signed on to direct Everest, an adaptation of Archer’s novel Paths of Glory. Up in the Air scribe Sheldon Turner is writing the script, which fictionalizes the story of real-life mountaineer George Mallory and his three attempts in the ’20s to become the first man to reach the top of the world’s highest mountain. Brit writer Jeffrey Archer is having quite a month. Hot on the heels of last week’s story that Bourne producer Frank Marshall would be developing a spy movie franchise based on Archer’s novels A Matter of Honor and Honor Among Thieves comes news that another one of Archer’s books — The Eleventh Commandment — is being developed as a thriller television series by The Walking Dead producer Gale Ann Hurd. The story follows CIA assassin Connor Fitzgerald, who finds himself facing off against his own boss, agency chief Helen Dexter. Meanwhile, a ruthless Russian power is plotting to start World War III. Considering the massive success of the Bourne series of films, it’s not at all surprising that producer Frank Marshall‘s got his eye on another potential spy franchise. News comes today that Marshall is developing an action thriller based on A Matter of Honor, the bestselling novel by millionaire Brit novelist Jeffrey Archer. And if that adaptation goes well, Marshall’s already got a sequel planned, to be adapted from Archer’s Honor Among Thieves. Read more after the jump.
