Teeth director Mitchell Lichtenstein is back with a very different kind of horror story. Based on the novel by Arthur Phillips, Angelica stars Jena Malone as a wife and mother haunted by spirits in Victorian England.
The Angelica trailer is full of the shadows, bumps, and ominous warnings typical of the genre, but there’s a psychosexual bent to it that should keep things interesting. Ed Stoppard and Janet McTeer also star. Watch the Angelica trailer after the jump. Read More »

It’s been several years since David Gordon Green began working on his remake of Dario Argento‘s horror classic Suspiria, but the pieces appear to be falling into place for real this time. About a month after producers announced that financing was locked in and casting was underway, Green has found his star:15-year-old Isabelle Furhman, best known for her turn in Jaume Collet-Serra’s rather insane Orphan.
Fuhrman leads a strong cast that also includes Isabelle Huppert, Janet McTeer, Michael Nyqvist, and Antje Traue, in unnamed roles. More details after the jump.

The last trailer we saw for The Woman in Black was heavy on atmosphere but light on plot, deploying shots of run-down toys, some mysterious little girls, and a terrified-looking Daniel Radcliffe to set an effectively creepy mood. The newer UK trailer is somewhat more straightforward, offering fewer shots of eerie monkey toys but a much better idea of the actual story.
Radcliffe stars as young lawyer Arthur Kipps, who travels to the countryside in order to settle the affairs of a recently deceased client. Once there, he encounters the spectre of a woman hell-bent on revenge. The period horror was directed by James Watkins (Eden Lake) from a screenplay by Jane Goldman (Stardust, Kick-Ass), which in turn was adapted from Susan Hill‘s 1983 novel. Ciarán Hinds, Janet McTeer, and Roger Allam also star. Watch the trailer after the jump.

What a strange thing this is. Albert Nobbs is a passion project for Glenn Close, who plays the title character, a woman who poses as a man so she can take a job in a hotel in 19th century Ireland. You’ll probably hear a lot of award-season talk about Close’s performance here, and watching this trailer that just released, it’s easy to see why. But I can’t make out what sort of film this is meant to be — a serious drama, a slightly mannered comedy, or a blend of several styles. Check it out for yourself, after the break. Read More »

It’s nice to see someone trying to make a genuine ghost story. We used to see a lot more films in the vein of The Woman in Black, but they’ve fallen somewhat out of favor. For his first post-Harry Potter film role, Daniel Radcliffe chose to go with a ghost tale scripted by Jane Goldman (Stardust, Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class) based on the well-regarded novel by Susan Hill. The first teaser for the film, released a couple months back, had some good chills, and this full trailer is characterized by a thick, bleak atmosphere that is quite appropriate for a story about a young lawyer who confronts ghosts and secrets while settling an estate. The first big post-Harry Potter role for Daniel Radcliffe is in the thriller The Woman in Black, which is a period-set tale about a young lawyer who encounters a ghost when hired to sort out an estate’s papers. The movie is also part of the return of the once-great Hammer Films label. A teaser for The Woman in Black has been released, and though there really isn’t much to it — shadows and the implication of some scares — you can check it out below. Read More »
Peter recently ran the pretty cool-looking poster for Cat Run in Page 2. At the time we knew little about the film, which stars Paz Vega as a call girl on the run because a whole bunch of people want a hard drive that is in her possession. Now there is a trailer for the film and after watching it, I still don’t know much about the film beyond the sentence that precedes this one. Read More »
Things have gone a little bit Harry Potter crazy in the last few days, but that’s to be expected with the huge movie Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 coming out so soon. Well, the people at Hammer Films aren’t going to let the Potter wave go by without taking ride as they’ve revealed the first official photos of Potter-star Daniel Radcliffe in their upcoming period horror film The Woman in Black. Directed by James Watkins (Eden Lake) from an adapted screenplay by Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass, Stardust), it’s about a young lawyer (Radcliffe) who must uncover a small town mystery involving the title character. Ciaran Hinds and Janet McTeer co-star in the film based on the novel by Susan Hill. We saw some set photos in September but, after the break, we’ve got two official images, the plot description and more. Read More »
