jumanji welcome to the jungle early buzz

Nostalgia-infused remakes are a dime a dozen, but successful ones are another story. Surprisingly, it seems like Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is the latter.

It’s a huge burden to live up to a Robin Williams performance, and one that is beloved by every ’90s kid at that. (Yes, I hold his Jumanji performance to be up there with his heartfelt comedic turn in Mrs. Doubtfire. Fight me.) But it seems like Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan are up to the task, delivering the laughs and the love toward Williams’ character in Jake Kasdan‘s sorta-sequel to the 1995 Jumanji movie.

Below, check out some of the Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle early buzz.

Goosebumps 2 writer

Goosebumps may not have been the best family horror film, but it was surprisingly fun, and apparently a big enough hit to warrant a sequel. Sony has just hired a new writer to pen the latest adventure set in the wild world of R.L. Stine, but the new script comes with a caveat: Jack Black, star of the first Goosebumps, may not be returning for Goosebumps 2. The latest treatment from the new Goosebumps 2 writer does not include a part for Black’s take on R.L. Stine.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle Featurette

You might not expect a movie like Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle to fit in with the spirit of other holiday movies that usually get released around Christmas time, but that’s exactly what Dwayne Johnson hoped to accomplish.

In a new Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle featurette, the wrestler turned actor says, “We wanted to make a movie that encapsulates what the holiday spirit really means: the spirit of wonderment [and] discovering who you are.” Furthermore, Johnson wanted to sure that the spirit of the movie was in line with the original 1995 adaptation of Chris Van Allsburg’s beloved children’s book. Go behind the scenes to see how they tried to accomplish that by checking out the featurette below. Read More »

jumanji

How do you go about updating Jumanji for 2017? By transforming that magical (and dangerous) board game of the title into a video game, of course. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is a sort-of sequel to Joe Johnston’s 1995 film, with Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan stepping in for Robin Williams. Since that film has its fair share of nostalgic fans, the first trailer for this sequel/reboot is surely going to undergo some scrutiny.

So let’s get the scrutinizing started.

Jumanji 2 Set Video

Production on the new Jumanji is underway over in the jungles of Hawaii. Kevin Hart just recently posted a first look at our main characters played by himself, Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan and Jack Black. Now it’s Hart’s Central Intelligence co-star’s turn to share a behind-the-scenes look at the movie that was initially thought to be reboot, but is actually a sequel. In fact, it sounds like it’s more of a legacy-quel since the movie will pay tribute to Robin Williams’ character in some capacity.

In addition, Jumanji 2 has added some new cast members, including Flight of the Conchords and What We Do In The Shadows star Rhys Darby, and Karen Gillan revealed a tease about why her character is so scantily clad in the dangerous jungle. See all that and Dwayne Johnson’s Jumanji 2 set video after the jump. Read More »
