shannara-chronicles

Amid all the Miley Cyrus weed jokes, the Taylor Swift wins, and the #viral #unscripted #moments at last night’s VMAs, MTV debuted the first trailer for The Shannara Chronicles. Based on the novels by Terry Brooks, the fantasy drama unfolds centuries after a nuclear holocaust has wiped our current civilization off the map.

At the center of the story are three heroes — Elven princess Amberle (Poppy Drayton), human Eretria (Ivana Baquero), and half-elf, half-human Wil (Austin Butler) — on a quest to save the world from an evil demon. Watch The Shannara Chronicles trailer after the jump. Read More »

MTV is moving from the contemporary horror/comedy re-dos of Teen Wolf and Scream to realms of fantasy.

The channel has bankrolled The Shannara Chronicles, based on Terry Brooks‘ long-running series of fantasy novels. The first season is based on the second book, The Elfstones of Shannara, from when Brooks was still borrowing even more heavily from Tolkien than most fantasy writers of the ’70s and ’80s did.

Now we’ve got the first Shannara Chronicles photo, featuring the three actors who play some of the series’ lead characters. Read More »

With Carrie‘s June 1 start date just around the corner, director Kimberly Peirce is adding the final touches to her cast. Leads Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore have been locked in since this spring, but it’s only in the past couple of weeks that the production has been staffing up on supporting players.

Chronicle star Alex Russell and theater actor Ansel Elgort signed on earlier this month, and now we’re hearing that Judy Greer, Ivana Baquero (Pan’s Labyrinth), and Gabriella Wilde (The Three Musketeers) are circling three key supporting roles. More details after the jump.

Update: Sources say this casting info isn’t yet set, so we’ll report further as official word is released.
