After years away from sci-fi, director Ridley Scott is returning to the genre in a big way this summer with Prometheus, and he aims to stick around for a while. Scott already has hopes of working on Prometheus 2 sooner rather than later, and is currently in the middle of developing some kind of sequel to Blade Runner. Also after the jump:

The latest addition to the cast of Shane Black‘s Iron Man 3 is James Badge Dale (The Pacific, Rubicon, The Grey), who has signed on to play a villain called Savin. Despite the fact that the film starts shooting just weeks from now, Marvel has done a very good job keeping details of the plot quiet. There are rumors that Ben Kingsley is playing the Mandarin, and other rumors that the overall plot of the film involves nanotechnology and some version of the Extremis storyline from Marvel’s comic series.

I’d like to welcome all the new Marvel Studios fans to the fold. The Avengers hit the $1B mark this weekend, and it is on track to break all sorts of impressive-sounding box office records. That implies that there are a lot of happy returning Marvel fans who’ve been on board for the ride since Iron Man was released a few years ago, but there are also a lot of new converts.

This update is mostly for the new followers. In a video interview with Bloomberg, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige talks about the studio’s future plans. Feige speaks with some specificity about the plans to shoot new films over the course of the next year: first Iron Man 3, then Thor 2 and Captain America  2. He also explains that the studio has two films planned that are as yet unannounced. After Oscar-nominee Jessica Chastain passed on the role, writer/director Shane Black is now likely to cast Rebecca Hall as the female lead in Marvel’s first post Avengers film, Iron Man 3. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Don Cheadle, Gwyneth Paltrow, Guy Pearce and Ben Kingsley, Iron Man 3 will begin production in North Carolina this month leading toward a May 3, 2013 release date. For a moment, Iron Man 3 was shaping up to be a ginger convention, with Gwyneth Paltrow and Scarlett Johansson reprising their roles from previous Iron Man films and The Avengers, and Jessica Chastain in talks to play a ‘sexy scientist’ said to be Tony Stark’s intellectual equal.
