This story and podcast was published on May 17th 2012, just after the release of Joss Whedon’s The Avengers. I thought it would be fun to take a look back at our predictions from 27 months ago to see how things are panning out for phase two and three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Some of the predictions seem obvious in hindsight, like Germain predicting that Thanos wouldn’t be the villain of Avengers 2 and Jeff foreseeing that Thanos’ appearance during the Avengers end credits stinger was probably a set-up for another film, Guardians of the Galaxy. But one must remember this was recorded before a Guardians of the Galaxy movie was even announced, which happened months later at 2012 San Diego Comic-Con. Enjoy!

You may wonder why people sleep on concrete overnight at San Diego Comic-Con to see Marvel’s Hall H panel every year. You can find a small answer below. Besides the awesome news and huge stars Marvel parades across the stage, the studio is all about theatrics. The lights go down, a video comes up, and 6,500 people have no idea what’s about to play. In 2014, it was a retrospective sizzle reel to set up what’s about to happen. Marvel played a five-plus minute retrospective to pump up the fans and pass the torch to this weekend’s Marvel film, Guardians of the Galaxy.
We can’t duplicate the electricity of 6,500 people clapping and cheering in unison, or the fatigue and stench that results from the long wait to get in to Hall H. But you can watch the Marvel Comic Con sizzle reel below. Read More »
Like all the other Marvel movies before it, this weekend’s Guardians of the Galaxy is jam-packed with Easter Eggs. An “easter egg” is a hidden visual or audio cue that doesn’t add to a story, and isn’t necessary to see on first watch, but adds to repeat viewings by winking to the fans. Marvel is great at this, stuffing their films with Easter Eggs both very obvious and rather subtle, making all of their movies crazy rewatchable.
The problem with most of these Marvel Easter Eggs is they go by so fast, you often can’t see them until the films hit Blu-ray. That’s why this new video from MTV, Every Marvel Easter Egg Explained In One Video, only goes through last year’s Thor: The Dark World. Even so, it’s still an awesome watch and surely includes some things even the most hard-core fans might have missed. Read More »
Over the course of my interview with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, we spoke about two spoilers in Guardians of the Galaxy. Those have been removed to be published at a later date. What remains is an interesting exchange about what’s coming up at Marvel Studios starting as soon as this week’s San Diego Comic-Con, and out to 2019. We discussed what we may or may not see at San Diego Comic-Con, how he deals with wild rumors that pop up on the internet, the way the Marvel Cinematic Universe handles death and how Phase Two shares some DNA with the original Star Wars trilogy. Below, read our spoiler-free Guardians of the Galaxy interview with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. Read More »

There aren’t many who could beat Tony Stark in a fair fight, but Katniss Everdeen is one of them. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has just become the highest-grossing release of 2013, narrowly beating out Iron Man 3. Which is pretty remarkable in itself, but is even more impressive when you consider that it’s the first female-led film to come out on top since The Exorcist in 1973. Hit the jump for more on Katniss’ box office supremacy.
