30 Rock and How I Met Your Mother Leaving Netflix

The more time goes by and the more Netflix gets invested in their own original programming, the more titles that have been part of the streaming services library for years will be disappearing.

Earlier this year, Futurama fans were annoyed to learn that nearly the entire series was leaving the streaming service along with several other staple FOX programs like The X-Files, American Dad!, House M.D. and Firefly. Now fans of NBC’s comedy series 30 Rock and the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother can join in their misery as both shows will be removed from Netflix this fall. Read More »

How I Met Your Dad

Back in 2014, after How I Met Your Mother finished its ninth and final season, there was a spin-off series developing called How I Met Your Dad. The series wasn’t merely the mother’s side of the same story that viewers watched play out for nine years only to end on a rather disappointing note, but instead was going to focus on a new female character telling the story to her kids about how she met their father.

CBS ended up passing on the pilot, but the network is apparently still keen on figuring out how to make it work as they will have a new team of writers developing the series. But now they’re starting from scratch. Read More »

Netflix has released a new study revealing just how long it takes for viewers to become hooked by a television show. According to the data from the global streaming service, viewers are rarely hooked by a show in the pilot episode.

Netflix analyzed its global streaming data* across the inaugural seasons of some of today’s most popular shows – both Netflix original series and shows that premiered on other networks – looking for signals that pointed to when viewers became hooked. It turns out that when commercial breaks and appointment viewing are stripped away and consumers can watch an entire season as they choose, you can see fandom emerge. That is, 70% of viewers who watched the hooked episode went on to complete season one or more poetically, when members were hooked and there was no turning back.

So how long did it take popular television shows to hook the viewers? Find out, after the jump.

greta-gerwig-2

Greta Gerwig is the new Josh Radnor. The Frances Ha actress has just been cast as the lead in How I Met Your Dad, CBS’ upcoming sorta-spinoff of How I Met Your Mother. Like the original series, the new show will follow a young(ish) single person trying to find love in New York.

This should be familiar territory for Gerwig, who’s played free-spirited big city singletons in Frances Ha, Lola Versus, Greenberg, Arthur… Get more details on this particular incarnation of that archetype after the jump.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER

Frankly, I’m glad How I Met Your Mother is ending with the current season. It’s already spent far too much time spinning its wheels, and while I still enjoy checking in with the gang from week to week, the show definitely isn’t as fresh or funny as it once was. But CBS, unsurprisingly, isn’t quite ready to let it go.

The network is now in talks with 20th Century Fox TV for a lady-centric spinoff unofficially entitled How I Met Your Father. How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are developing the concept with Emily Spivey, best known as the creator of NBC’s short-lived Up All Night. Get plot details and more after the jump.
