Amanda Seyfried in The Big Wedding

While some actors seem to be forever pigeonholed into one genre or another, Amanda Seyfried has proven over the course of her decade-plus career that she can do them all: soap opera, teen comedy, modern noir, supernatural horror, sci-fi, thriller, romantic drama, musical, animated children’s feature, even a Western. So she seems as well equipped as anyone to try and breathe life into a genre that doesn’t get much love in Hollywood these days.

Seyfried has just boarded He’s Fuckin’ Perfect, a romcom being produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay and directed by Funny or Die alum Jake Szymanski. If the title rings a bell, that may be because we first reported on it two years ago when Emma Stone was linked to the role. Plot details and more after the jump.

Whether or not the name Jake Szymanski rings a bell, odds are you’re familiar with some of his work. The rising director’s built up a reputation over the past few years helming some of the most popular shorts on Adam McKay and Will Ferrell‘s Funny or Die website, including “Forehead Tittaes w/ Marion Cotillard,” “Betwixt the Music: Rebecca Black,” and “Rachel Bilson’s Deleted Sex Scene.” Now Szymanski is in talks to direct the Fox 2000 comedy He’s Fuckin’ Perfect, from McKay and Ferrell’s Gary Sanchez Productions. The script, which landed on the 2011 Black List, comes from McKay’s former assistant Lauryn Kahn.

The news isn’t all happy, though. Emma Stone, who entered talks to star several weeks ago, is now said to be “unlikely” to board the project. More details after the jump.

Each December since 2004, studio executive Franklin Leonard has compiled the best unproduced screenplays of the year, as voted by hundreds of execs, agency guys, and high-level assistants. Titled The Black List, the compendium highlights both established screenwriters and up-and-comers, and has served as a launching pad in the past for projects like Juno, Lars and the Real Girl, and (500) Days of Summer. Last year’s list included Margin Call, Crazy, Stupid, Love, The Hunger Games, and Snow White and the Huntsman.

It should be noted that the headline is somewhat misleading — some of these screenplays have already been acquired and are already in development, though according to Leonard none will have entered principal photography by December 31, 2011.¬†Also worth pointing out is that, as in previous years, there have been rumors that some of the participants have been accused of using the Black List to promote their own clients or friends. Finally, as Leonard reminds us each time, “The Black List is not a ‘best of’ list. It is, at best, a ‘most liked’ list.”

Regardless, we can always rely on the Black List to stir up conversation among both industry insiders and outside spectators alike, so without further ado, hit the jump for the complete 2011 list.

Emma Stone has been moving into more dramatic territory lately with parts in The Help and Gangster Squad, but she may be returning to her comedy roots soon. The actress has entered talks to star in He’s Fuckin’ Perfect, a comedy by first time feature writer Lauryn Kahn. The film is being produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay‘s Gary Sanchez Productions, where Kahn has worked for the past several years as McKay’s assistant.

He’s Fuckin’ Perfect revolves around a pessimistic woman who uses her social media know-how to research her friends’ dates and help them weed out the losers. But when she stumbles across the ideal man, she convinces her friend to dump him so that she can claim him for herself, using her Internet savvy to turn herself into his perfect match.¬†[Deadline]

After the jump, Michelle Monaghan is a sex-addicted FBI agent, Alice Eve is a homewrecker, and Brian Cox gives Zach Galifianakis some serious daddy issues.
