Screenwriters? Check. Release date? Check. Now Red 2, the sequel to the 2010 comic book adaptation starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren has an all-important director as well. Dean Parisot, the director of Galaxy Quest and Fun With Dick and Jane, will helm the sequel which is expected to return all four of those stars. Writers Jon and Erich Hoeber were hired to write the script last January and Summit announced August 2, 2013 as the film’s release date. It’ll be Parisot’s job to bring those two things together. After years of development projects trying to get a movie about Alfred Hitchcock on the screen, two are coming close to fruition. The first is Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho, based on Stephen Rebello‘s book of the same title. (Rebello co-scripted with Black Swan writer John McLaughlin.) The film has had Anthony Hopkins set to play Hitch for a while, and just moved from Paramount to Fox Searchlight. And now Helen Mirren will likely play Hitchcock’s wife Alma Reville.
Sacha Gervasi (Anvil! The Story of Anvil) is directing this one, the subject of which should be pretty evident from the title, and THR says that this deal is still in early stages, but the film hopes to shoot in April.
After the break, part of the creation of The Birds will hit HBO and the BBC. Read More »
In 2009 director John Madden (Shakespeare in Love) led a remake of the 2007 Israeli film Ha Hov, aka The Debt. The story is a sort of inverted revenge drama in which a trio of young Mossad agents hunt a Nazi war criminal in 1965, then find their youthful actions coming back to haunt them thirty years later. The cast is impressive (Helen Mirren, Ciarán Hinds, Tom Wilkinson, Sam Worthington, Marton Csokas and a pre-The Tree of Life Jessica Chastain) and the script is by Matthew Vaughn & Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class) and Peter Straughan, but the film was mired in the sale of Miramax. Now Focus Features has the film scheduled for August of this year, and there is a new trailer to complement the first look we had at the film last year. Read More »
Funny or Die has been killing it recently. This time, the site has roped in quite a collection of talent: Billy Crystal, Rob Reiner, Helen Mirren and more (Mike Tyson!) to create a fake trailer for a very ill-considered sequel to When Harry Met Sally. It is a lot like Robert Altman’s film The Player, condensed to under five minutes and with a few 2011-appropriate thrown in. Check it out below. Read More »
Cool Posts From Around the Web:
Warner Bros has released a second movie trailer for the remake of Arthur. Russell Brand plays an “irresponsible charmer” named Arthur Bachwho will lose his limitless fortune if he doesn’t accept an arranged marriage. I’m still not sold on two things: 1. The need for this remake and 2. that this movie is funny enough to warrant a $10-$15 movie ticket. The only reason I’m curious to see the film is the involvement of Luis Guzman and the Batman/Robin bit that is teased in the advertising. Watch the trailer embedded after the jump. Well, it’s about bloody time. Jason Winer‘s remake of the classic Dudley Moore comedy Arthur, starring Russell Brand, Helen Mirren, Luis Guzman, Jennifer Garner and others is scheduled for release on April 8 but we hadn’t seen a trailer until now. The film is about a spoiled New York billionaire whose whole life has been set-up for him until he finally stands up to his parents and he’s forced to live without money. One of the more promising films that was delayed when Miramax closed its doors last year is John Madden‘s The Debt. Based on a script by Matthew Vaughn & Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class) and Peter Straughan, the film features Sam Worthington, Jessica Chastain and Helen Mirren in a remake of the 2007 Israeli film Ha-Hov, about a trio of Mossad agents on the trail of a Nazi war criminal.
Now Focus Features will release the film in the US, later this year. Read More »
