In a somewhat surprising move, AMC just renewed the show Halt and Catch Fire. The first season averaged 1.3 million viewers over its first 10 episodes, which isn’t great, but it hit a specific adult demographic that the channel liked. And I’m sure the fact its male stars Lee Pace and Scoot McNairy are both becoming major stars on the big screen (Guardians of the Galaxy for Pace, Batman v Superman for McNairy) doesn’t hurt. The new episodes will air next summer. Read more about Halt and Catch Fire season 2 below. Read More »

AMC has released the Halt and Catch Fire pilot episode online for everyone to preview ahead of the series’ June 1st premiere. This might be my most anticipated new television series of the year, a fictionalized dramatic thriller set in the wild west of the early 1980s PC revolution. The show is set during the expansion of the PC market after IBM rose to prominence. The new series stars Lee Pace as Joe MacMillan, Scoot McNairy as Gordon Clark, Kerry Bishé as Donna Clark, and Mackenzie Davis as Cameron Howe, who exploit particular aspects of IBM’s design to create their own personal computer. Find out how to watch the Halt and Catch Fire pilot episode after the jump, and we’ve also included the trailer for the new television series.

The title Halt and Catch Fire makes this new AMC show sound like a strange thriller, but it’s really about the expansion of the PC market after IBM rose to prominence. That said, the show does look like a thriller to some extent, as a set of characters — primarily Lee Pace as Joe MacMillan, Scoot McNairy as Gordon Clark, Kerry Bishé as Donna Clark, and Mackenzie Davis as Cameron Howe — exploit particular aspects of IBM’s design to create their own personal computer. Check out a Halt and Catch Fire teaser trailer below.
