The Magnificent Seven remake is also going to be a Training Day reunion. Ethan Hawke has just joined his Training Day director Antoine Fuqua and co-star Denzel Washington on the project, which also stars Chris Pratt and Haley Bennett. More details on the Magnificent Seven Ethan Hawke casting after the jump.

Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’t Cry) is putting together a new film based on Stephen King‘s debut novel Carrie. Brian De Palma’s movie starring Sissy Spacek and John Travolta remains one of De Palma’s most entertaining films, packed as it is with over-the-top characterization and De Palma’s trademark love of split-screen imagery. So my first reaction to hearing about another new Carrie (this isn’t the first remake of the story) is ‘why?’ But having a female director is one way to make this seem like a worthwhile endeavor.
Now we’ve got the first indications of potential casting, as info has emerged about two possible choices to play the adolescent telekinetic Carrie White: 15-year-old Chloë Moretz (Kick-Ass, Dark Shadows) and 24-year-old Haley Bennett (Terrence Malick’s film formerly called Lawless).
Update: Deadline says that Moretz has been offered the role, and that after testing last weekend, she more or less got the job immediately.

After taking a hiatus for the birth of her son, Natalie Portman is gearing up to get back to work. Portman, who won Best Actress at last year’s Academy Awards, has found her first post-Oscar roles in two upcoming Terrence Malick films, Knight of Cups and Lawless. Details on the two films are still scarce, but given the combination of Malick, Portman, and her co-stars on the two projects, I’m pretty excited all the same. More details after the jump.

I don’t know what meds Terrence Malick started taking last year, but I like the result. From 1973 to 2011, the director released only five films. Now he has another four in the pipeline. Malick took years finishing The Tree of Life and is still reportedly working on the IMAX doc Voyage of Time. That latter film is new project number one.
He has already shot a film that may or may not be called The Burial, which features Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Javier Bardem and Rachel Weisz. That’s number two. And he has been prepping a movie with Christian Bale and newcomer Haley Bennett, which shot partially at the Austin City Limits fest in mid-September. That’s number three, and the title has been revealed as Lawless.
In addition to those, he has a fourth film on the docket, also with Bale: Knight of Cups. Details on both of those last two films are after the break. Read More »
Not long ago, we heard that Terrence Malick has a new film brewing with Christian Bale. Almost nothing else was known about the project — no real story, no timeline, no other cast details. Over the weekend, we got what seems to be the best possible confirmation of this project as Malick and Bale were spotted all over the Austin City Limits music fest. A camera crew was following the two and actress Haley Bennett, recently said to be the frontrunner for the female lead. Malick was also photographed with camera in hand.
We still don’t know any real details of the story, or even if this was essentially a test shoot. Given that Bale is still shooting The Dark Knight Rises we didn’t expect to learn anything new about this for a while, so this collection of images is an unexpected surprise. Photos and video of the director are exceedingly rare, so for Malick fans the collection of photos and video that we have below will be a hell of a lot more enticing than all the superhero movie set photos that crop up on a daily basis. Cool Posts From Around the Web:
When Terrence Malick chose Jessica Chastain years ago to be the female lead in The Tree of Life she was all but unknown; now she seems to be everywhere, and is garnering great praise for her performances in Malick’s movie, The Debt and (at the Venice film fest) Wilde Salome. Malick employed the same canny eye for casting with his first feature, Badlands, when he chose Sissy Spacek to star.
So when the director picks a relative unknown to star in his as-yet untitled film that will star Christian Bale, we should all take notice. The actress in question is Haley Bennett (Marley & Me, The Haunting of Molly Hartley), said to be the frontrunner for a role that has drawn no small amount of interest. Read More »
Halfway through the new full trailer for Gregg Araki‘s new film Kaboom I’d already decided it looks like a sexually liberated, made for TV Donnie Darko when this quote came up: “A gonzo teen fantasy that’s tripper, hornier and more apocalyptically funny than ‘Donnie Darko’.” Oh, the coincidence!
We showed you some NSFW clips from the film when it was at TIFF last year, and a NSFW teaser trailer just a week ago, but this is the full trailer, from Sundance Selects. It lays out the basics of the film pretty well: really pretty college kids (could the trailer love Thomas Dekker‘s eyes any more?), lots of sex (not as much as in the NSFW teaser) and then some ‘freaky,’ weird stuff. Is this thing serious? Is it a cartoon that exploits classic stereotypes of hot college kids having sex, or a more ambitious piece of storytelling that subverts those same stereotypes? See if you can figure it out, after the break. Read More »
