Gwyneth Paltrow / Ewan McGregor

The Lone Ranger was a low point for Johnny Depp, but the actor’s already brushed himself off and moved on. Wally Pfister’s Transcendence is shooting now, Rob Marshall’s Into the Woods enters production later this year, and he’s got David Koepp’s Mortdecai coming together after that.

The last film on that list got a nice shove forward last month when Depp started closing in on a formal deal after years of development. Now it’s picking up even more big names, as Gwyenth Paltrow and Ewan McGregor enter talks to co-star. Hit the jump for plot details and more.

Thanks for Sharing

Despite sharing a theme and a location — sex addiction and New York City, respectively — Stuart Blumberg‘s Thanks for Sharing couldn’t look more different from Steve McQueen’s Shame. Whereas the latter was a dark, depressing portrayal of one man’s downward spiral, the former looks like a lighter, more hopeful affair about a group of sufferers helping each other get better.

One of the afflicted is Adam (Mark Ruffalo), an environmental consultant tentatively wading back into the dating pool after five years sober. He quickly meets Phoebe (Gwyneth Paltrow), a pretty foodie with issues of her own. Tim Robbins, Josh Gad, and Alecia Moore (you probably know her as Pink) play other members of Adam’s support group, and Joely Richardson and Patrick Fugit round out the cast. Hit the jump to watch the first trailer.

At movie junkets, the cast and crew of movies sit in a chair all day while hundreds of interviewers rotate in, most asking the same exact questions. The result is that the talent begin repeating the same soundbites over and over again. So much so that it almost becomes a script. Sometimes you go into one of these rooms, asking a different question that no one else has asked, and the tired actor might just try to find a way to work one of the dozen now-scripted soundbites as the answer, never really touching on your question. I always try to ask questions that aren’t asked by other journalists, but I try to stay away from the tv interview set-ups as they create an environment of recycled soundbite with not enough time to delve into any real substance.

But I do enjoy watching the tv interviews from the few journalists that find a way to keep the talent on their feet, and out of the soundbite zone. Daniele Rizzo is a German comedian who we’ve featured on the site in the past, usually working fun sketch interviews in at international film junkets. This time around Rizzo has shown up at the Star Trek Into Darkness junket as “Spocko”  to grill both cast and crew on the details of their missions. He also showed up at the Iron Man 3 junket to ask Robert Downey Jr & Gwyneth Paltrow the important questions in full costume as Italian Iron Man. He may not get any serious answers or scoops, but its fun to watch.

Iron Man 3 Official Embrace

Much like Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow‘s contract with Marvel ends with next week’s Iron Man 3. Everyone assumes Downey will be back for at least The Avengers 2, and probably Iron Man 4, but nothing is set in stone. Now Paltrow has put those assumptions up for serious debate with a quote where she says she doesn’t believe Iron Man 4 will happen. Read it below. Read More »

Currently, there are two camps when it comes to Iron Man 3. There’s the “Okay, Disney, we get it, stop with the footage and images” camp . These people are already sold on the film, have bought their tickets (figuratively, at least) and just want to see the full movie already. Then there’s the “Gimmie, gimmie, gimme” camp. They also have their tickets but still wants to see every little hint at what Shane Black has in store come May 3. This is for the second group.

A new featurette is online that’s about the new and expanded characters featured in the film. There are the new characters played by Ben Kingsley, Rebecca Hall, Guy Pearce and the expanded ones, played by Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle and Jon Favreau. Each gets a few seconds in the sun here, much of which happens with new footage. Read More »

Much of the country is still experiencing that early-spring chill, but summer is just six weeks away. Or the Hollywood version of it is, anyway. Early May marks the start of this year’s crowded blockbuster season as Iron Man 3 lands in theaters.

Marvel’s been marketing the hell out of this movie (remember when we got a poster like every two days?) and this weekend they made a grab for the family crowd with two new efforts. The first is a new TV spot that aired during the Kids’ Choice Awards, featuring bursts of new footage, and the second is an Iron Man 3-themed monorail winding its way through Walt Disney World. Iron Man 3 (2)

What’s going on with Tony Stark, Pepper Potts, the Iron Patriot and Extremis in Iron Man 3? Marvel and Disney recently released a new series of interviews to help promote the film and, in them, producer Kevin Feige and star Gwyneth Paltrow were more than happy to talk about specific scenes and motivations in Shane Black‘s upcoming superhero film.

Some of this is territory that was covered a few weeks back but for anyone clamoring for more info on the first film of Marvel’s Phase 2, these quotes provide several more pieces to the puzzle. Read More »

Iron Man 3 IMAX poster (header)

It’s been what, two weeks since the last Iron Man 3 poster was revealed? That kind of laziness simply won’t do. Fortunately, IMAX is here to save the day with a new poster featuring the whole gang. Tony (Robert Downey Jr.) and Pepper (Gwyneth Paltrow) clutch each other while supporting characters look on somberly, and little Iron Men fly around in the background.

All of it portends some serious drama, but most of us won’t know what exactly happens in the film for another several weeks. As part of the Marvel family, though, Joss Whedon got a little sneak peek. And according to studio head Kevin Feige, he had quite a reaction to the Iron Man 3 ending. Read about his comments and check out the new poster after the jump.

We hope you aren’t feeling Iron Man 3‘ed out just yet because there’s more materials coming. In the past two weeks we’ve gotten new posters, rumors, footage reports, news breaks and, of course, that fantastic new trailer. But there are still interviews to come and even yet another trailer and poster.

Marvel premiered a brand new poster for the film, featuring the two characters at the heart of it all, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow). They’re also joined by a few of their friends in the form of Iron Man armors.

Then, fresh off the heels of the domestic trailer, an international trailer has been released that includes snippets of footage from the China-set section of the film. Check them both out below. Read More »

Cool Posts From Around the Web:

Now that the final Iron Man 3 trailer is out, do you find yourself craving even more? How about some details on 15 minutes of footage taken from the film? Disney showed two complete scenes, in context, to journalists a few weeks back and we’re finally ready to tell you about it.

We were shown the entire Malibu house attack, from beginning to end, followed by its immediate effect on Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr. It’s an action-packed scene characterized by scope you’ve come to expect from Marvel, with plenty of surprises. We’ll save those for a spoiler section but, after the jump, read some thoughts and watch a spoiler-free video blog. In it, Steve from Collider and I discuss how, in this brief slice of Shane Black‘s May 3rd film, we get an idea of what Phase 2 will hold, and how the writer of Lethal Weapon and The Last Boy Scout is putting his mark on the Marvel Universe.

Later this week, check back later this week for interviews with Black, Robert Downey Jr., and Marvel President Kevin Feige. Read More »
