Guardians of the Galaxy - Matt Taylor

We shouldn’t have to open with this, but here goes: the Marvel Cinematic Universe is not coming to an end anytime soon. And yet, that seems to be the message the internet has taken from recent quotes by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, eventually pulling Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn into the muck so he could also confirm that no, one of the most massively successful and lucrative movie series of the young century is not coming to an end. Of course not. Duh.

But Gunn did tease that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will kickstart the “new story” that is coming down the pipeline. So that’s something.

Rocket Raccoon Origin Story

The first Guardians of the Galaxy introduced us to the ragtag team of space convicts who were one of Marvel Comics more obscure properties. Director James Gunn brought them into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it was one of the most acclaimed movies in the overarching comic book franchise to date. He followed it up with the satisfying sequel this past summer, and when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 rolls around, likely sometime in 2020, it will help kick off the next 10 years of the MCU. And now we have an idea of what we can expect from at least one of the characters from the cosmic superhero team. Read More »

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is building up to something big with the climactic Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4, and it’s up to the films following it to pick up the pieces. One of those films is James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy 3 which, in addition to being a sequel to two of the most beloved Marvel movies, is reportedly supposed to launch a new cosmic phase of the MCU.

However, the MCU has so many moving pieces that it’s hard to predict what movies will be released when after the next two Avengers films. But Gunn has a hint for fans concerning when Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will hit theaters.

guardians of the galaxy vol 3

There’s no question that Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 will rock the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it, but it won’t be until Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits our theaters sometime in 2020 that the MCU will be forever changed.

Director James Gunn has hinted that the third film in his Guardians of the Galaxy series will kick off the cosmic universe in the MCU, expanding the films that follow will go beyond just battling aliens on Earth. But this won’t just be a short stint on the other side of the galaxy — the cosmic universe may take up the next 10 to 20 years of the MCU. That’s the equivalent of all first three “Phases” of the MCU!

Suicide Squad Trailer Mash-Up

Even though Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 just hit theaters over a month ago, James Gunn is already hard at work on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Quasar

Guardians of the Galaxy series director James Gunn posted a tweet yesterday that is leading fans to speculate that the character Quasar might appear in the third installment of Marvel’s cosmic franchise. Was the tweet a sly tease, an unintentional slip-up, or just an observation completely unrelated to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3? That’s the question.

It turns out she’ll be back in the next installment of the franchise, and thanks to one of the credits scenes, we probably know what she’ll be up to. Since that delves into spoiler territory, we’ll save that discussion for below…
