Today’s TV Bits is a severely mixed bag, as we get updates on two returning shows and a few other shows that are dead or close to it. After the jump:
- NBC confirms that Community will be back in the spring
- AMC sets a return date for Mad Men
- Showtime releases the season premieres of Shameless and Californication online
- Fox cancels Allen Gregory, begins developing new late-night animated block
- Fox’s Fringe seems likely to get cancelled
- Fox decides against Glee spin-off, but devises a plan to keep its biggest stars on the show.

The cast of Christopher McQuarrie‘s One Shot has been filling up at lightning speed over the past month. Robert Duvall, Alexia Fast, Richard Jenkins, and David Oyelowo have all boarded the project within the last few weeks, and now comes news that Spartacus: Blood and Sand star Jai Courtney has signed on as well. Based on the novel by Lee Child, the story follows military cop turned drifter Jack Reacher (Tom Cruise) as he investigates a string of sniper shootings. Rosamund Pike is also set to star, as a detective who works with Jack to solve the case.
Courtney will be playing one of the bad guys, a highly trained sniper who tries to keep Reacher from finding out the truth. One Shot is scheduled for a February 8, 2013 release. [Cinema Blend]

Sad as I am to see summer go, there is something I’m really looking forward to about the coming months, and that is the advent of the television’s regular season. After a long summer away from my imaginary friends in Pawnee, Greendale, and Lima, I’m eager to check back in and see what the new premieres have to offer. Hit the jump to see:

Glee may be getting a high-profile guest star next season. Anne Hathaway first expressed her desire to come on the show last fall, and show creator Ryan Murphy confirmed to press this past January that he planned to have the actress on the show, possibly in the role of Kurt’s (Chris Colfer) lesbian aunt. However, several months later, Hathaway’s still waiting for the call from Murphy, so she decided to call Murphy out on a recent interview. Hathaway recounted the story to Buzz Sugar:
Ryan Murphy goes, “Anne Hathaway! Come on Glee.” And I said, “Yes!” and he said “Fab, I’ll call you.” He went back to the press room and said, “Anne Hathaway is going to be on the show.” And I never heard from him again. Ryan Murphy, I’m calling you out: I want to be on Glee. I’ve got my songs picked out.
I’ve got my fingers crossed that at least one of those tunes is a rap song — I wouldn’t want her skills, as recently demonstrated on Conan, to go to waste. [Vulture]

We’ve already seen photos of Andrew Garfield as both Peter Parker and Spider-Man and Emma Stone as love interest Gwen Stacy in
Marc Webb‘s The Amazing Spider-Man. Today we have the first looks at Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors a.k.a. The Lizard, and Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben.
The first photo, snapped by college student J. Anthony Hall, shows Ifans and Garfield filming an outdoor scene. Not much is actually happening in the still, but it’s worth noting that Ifans is clearly wearing a bright green sock or covering over his right hand — presumably so it can be made to look missing or changed in post-production. (In the comics, Connors was a war surgeon who lost his arm in a blast. Upon returning to civilian life, he developed a serum from reptilian DNA and regenerated his arm. Then he became a full-on reptilian monster. Oops.)
The other images, from the Daily Mail, feature Sheen and Garfield standing outside in sunglasses. I’d guess that they aren’t in character in these pictures, but I can’t be sure. Scroll past the jump to see the full images. [Coming Soon via Obsessed with Film]

Miley Cyrus has one. So do the Jonas Brothers and Justin Bieber. Now those crazy kids from Fox’s hit musical TV show Glee are getting their own, live, 3D concert movie. 20th Century Fox will release Glee Live! 3D! in theaters on August 12 for a two-week limited engagement directed by Kevin Tancharoen, the man behind those Mortal Kombat shorts. The film will be shot during the upcoming Glee Live! In Concert! North American Tour that starts later this month and feature most of the show’s cast. Read more about it after the jump. Read More »
Gallery 1988 has just revealed their final of the six awesome posters made for PaleyFest 2011. This one, for the hit Fox show Glee by Tom Whalen, rounds out a broad spectrum of shows that were graced with fantastic limited edition posters. And while Glee normally isn’t something we cover here on the site, as a poster collecting completest, anxiety would have set in if we only posted five of the six posters created for the series. All of these posters – including Eastbound and Down, Parks and Recreations and more -are on sale on the Gallery 1988 website.
