Josh Gad is about to embark on much more than a three hour tour. The Tony Award nominee who can currently be heard in Frozen and is gearing up to play Sam Kinison has just signed on to co-write and star in a live-action film adaptation of the classic 1960s TV series Gilligan’s Island at Warner Bros.
It’s unclear which role Gad would play, but the title character would make sense. He’s co-writing with Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez. Gad is also co-writing Triplets, the potential sequel to Twins. [Deadline]
Today’s t-shirt at TeeFury is probably one of the coolest Lost-inspired t-shirts I’ve ever seen. Julia Sonmi Heglund‘s design “Wrong Island” pictures Gilligan and the Skipper from Gilligan’s Island, alongside the Hatch and the smoke monster from Lost. The good news is that the t-shirt is available for only $9 plus shipping. The bad news is that the t-shirt design will only be available today, and today online. So get it while you still can. Check out the full image after the jump.

Sherwood Schwartz and his son Lloyd Schwartz have signed a deal to bring Gilligan’s Island to the big screen. I loved Gilligan’s Island as a kid, and am not against the idea of a re-imagining of the series… But it seems to me that LOST is our generation’s version of the 1960’s television series, and anything closer to the source material would just be too silly (I’m imagining something like The Flintstones movie… ewww).
Schwartz broke the news at the Beverly Hills induction ceremony of Television Academy’s Hall of Fame on December 9th, where he told TV Guide that he wants Michael Cera to play Gilligan and Beyonce Knowles to play Ginger. It just seems like a bad idea. But if they could successfully update the series for the big screen, Cera might be perfect for the role of Gilligan. But I’m pretty sure if a movie makes it to theaters, it won’t be good.
Discuss: Who would you cast in the lead roles – Gilligan, The Skipper, Thurston Howell III, Mrs. Howell, The Professor, Ginger, and Mary Ann?
