James Brown tells you who he is in this new trailer for the biopic Get on Up. Either a short theatrical trailer or a long TV spot, this look at the film opens with Brown (Chadwick Boseman, 42) talking about his parents, and we flash through some moments of success before coming back around to a heated conversation between mama and her son. Much of this footage is the same as what we saw in the first trailer, but there’s definitely some new stuff, and a different emphasis, and additional voiceover. Hot on the heels of this morning’s first-look image, Universal has released the first Get On Up trailer. The Tate Taylor-directed biopic stars Chadwick Boseman — last seen playing another American icon, Jackie Robinson, in 42 — as James Brown, tracing his journey from poor street kid to the Godfather of Soul.
Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Nelsan Ellis, Lennie James, Tika Sumpter, Jill Scott, and Dan Aykroyd also star. Watch the video, and check out a big bunch of high-res images, after the jump.

That’s 42 star Chadwick Boseman above, and below you’ll see Boseman as James Brown in the first shot from the Brown biopic Get on Up. The film also stars Dan Aykroyd as Ben Bart, who presided over Brown’s agency Universal Attractions. The film, which spans much of the singer’s life, also features Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, and Lennie James.

Days after Chadwick Boseman took the lead in Tate Taylor‘s biopic of the Godfather of Soul James Brown, that film has a title and release date. It’ll be called Get On Up and will be released October 17, 2014. Also of note: Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer, who worked with Taylor on The Help, are being eyed for roles. Read More »
