Strangers Things interview

Right from the opening of Stranger Things season 2, the hit Netflix series expands in scope. Once you reach the the Duffer Brothers-directed season finale, though, it’s clear they still kept the already beloved characters front and center. Matt and Ross know audiences are streaming and bingeing for Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Sherriff Hopper (David Harbour), and friends, not what lurks in the Upside Down.

If demodogs, telekinesis, and all the mystery were removed from Stranger Things, the Duffer brothers’ show would still have plenty going for it. “The rule of law for season two was characters first, characters last, characters all the way,” producer and director Shawn Levy recently told us, while speaking with him and his 21 Laps Entertainment producing partner, Dan Cohen. We spoke with the duo a few days before season 2 came to Netflix, so we had a non-spoiler talk about the making of the second season, the production schedule, how the series made Levy fall back in love with directing, and how the show stands apart from its influences.

Stranger Things Season 2

True to the Halloween release of Stranger Things season 2, the new season will be “darker and more eerie” than the first season of Netflix’s surprise genre TV hit.

The hints at a darker season 2 will keep coming — I’m pretty sure this is the 10,000th time I’ve heard it called “darker” —  but it wasn’t until now that the cast and crew of the ’80s-set horror show specified that much of that dark stuff happens to a specific character. Which, in this case, I’m not here for because we need to protect everyone on this precious show.

stranger things season 2 cliffhanger

The first season of Stranger Things captivated, baffled, and frustrated us — and the second season promises to do all that and more.

That includes upping the stakes on a cliff-hanging finale, which star Gaten Matarazzo (who plays the scene-stealing Dustin) promises the second season will end on. The first season, which had no guarantee for a sequel, ended on Will (Noah Schnapp) ominously vomiting up a creepy slug and Chief Hopper (David Harbour) leaving a box of Eleven’s (Millie Bobby Brown) favorite Eggo waffles out in the forest. Now with Stranger Things becoming one of Netflix’s flagship shows, a third season is definitely in the cards, and with that, there will most likely be an even more infuriating season finale cliffhanger. Hit the jump to learn about the Stranger Things season 2 cliffhanger.

How Many Seasons Will ‘Stranger Things’ Last?

Stranger Things Season 2

The first season of Stranger Things got so much buzz and acclaim that a second-season renewal seemed like a foregone conclusion — even if it took Netflix a month and a half to get around to making it official. And based on the hype already building around season two, it seems possible that the next chapter of this story will be an even bigger hit than the last. If that’s the case, you can bet Netflix will re-up for season three before you can say “l’eggo my Eggo.”

But all good things have to end eventually, and that includes Stranger Things. Creators Matt and Ross Duffer have revealed that they have no intention of keeping their ’80s sci-fi thriller going forever. In fact, they’ve already given some thought as to where the series could go beyond season two — and when they would like the series to end. Below, find out how many seasons Stranger Things could last. Lest that news get you down, there’s also a new Stranger Things season 2 photo for you to enjoy.  Read More »

Stranger Things Season 2 - Dustin, Mike, Lucas, Will

As we learned over the weekend, Stranger Things season 2 isn’t actually coming for another nine months. But Netflix’s marketing team seems determined to make sure you spend every day between now and then longing to return to Hawkins, Indiana. Following the release of that first teaser trailer, a slew of new Stranger Things season 2 photos have just hit the web. Though plenty of time has passed since the events of season one (about a year, according to star David Harbour), it looks like this sleepy town is still dealing with the fallout from its brush with the Upside Down. See the Stranger Things season 2 photos below. Read More »

Stranger Things Kids Sing Uptown Funk

The 68th Annual Emmy Awards aired on ABC last night where Game of Thrones and The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story took home several big awards, with a variety of other shoes getting some trophies as well. But one show that wasn’t vying for any awards last night was Stranger Things. Don’t worry, it’s not because the show wasn’t nominated, but rather because it debuted after the window for eligibility for this year’s awards. There’s a good chance it will get some nominations next year though.

But just because Stranger Things wasn’t nominated for any awards last night doesn’t mean the show didn’t have a presence at the awards. Before the opening of the Emmy ceremony with host Jimmy Kimmel featured an easter egg from the show, three of the child stars from Stranger Things took the stage (off the air) to sing a rendition of Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” to the crowd. Thankfully, someone was able to record the adorable musical number. Plus, Kimmel utilized the kids for a fun gag during the ceremony.
