José Padilha has rounded up an impressive array of talent for his new Robocop remake, and the latest additions are no exception. A new report has surfaced today indicating that Jackie Earle Haley is now signed on, while Jay Baruchel is said to be circling a key role. The two join a cast that already includes Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Hugh Laurie, Abbie Cornish, and of course, Joel Kinnaman as Robocop himself. More details after the jump.

For the next two weeks, avoiding spoilers for The Dark Knight Rises might be as easy as tiptoeing through a minefield. Press screenings have begun, which means fan screenings will soon start, too, and all the secrets to Christopher Nolan‘s highly anticipated conclusion of his Batman trilogy will be out in the wild. Thankfully, this brand new 13-minute featurette has very little in the way of new spoilers.

The video takes us through the obvious story arc following The Dark Knight, as it talks about cast, characters and gives a great behind the scenes look at several of the big action scenes that have been revealed to date. We see the plane, the football field, Wall Street, and more. Acting as sort of a catch-all to the previously released images, posters, trailers and commercials, this featurette is an absolute perfect way to increase your excitement for the film without ruining too much of the story. The Weinstein Company is banking on the popularity of The Dark Knight Rises to really elevate the public perception of Tom Hardy, and so now isn’t such a bad time to release a new trailer showing off TWC’s Hardy-starring film, Lawless. We’ve followed this one for quite some time, as John Hillcoat‘s bootlegging tale, scripted by Nick Cave based on Matt Bondurant‘s book The Wettest County in the World, died and came back to life over a year ago.

The first trailer was pretty great, especially as it showed off some crazed work from supporting actors Guy Pearce and Gary Oldman. Now there’s a new trailer that minimizes co-star Shia LaBeouf in favor of pushing Tom Hardy to the fore; I don’t think many people are going to mind.

In addition, TWC has released an infographic breaking down the guns used by the main characters. Not a typical marketing tactic, but it’s a neat little chart. Check out both below. Read More »

Gary Oldman, actor, would like to make a request. He represents the many actors who have spent years perfecting their craft, and is troubled by athletes who think they can just waltz onto a set and turn into actors. What, do these game-players think acting ability develops by consuming a magical packet of Teddy Grahams at the craft service table?

Fortunately, Jimmy Kimmel gave Oldman a platform from which he could deliver a message to athletes and actors. His speech is a passionate plea for each to concentrate on the things they’re really good at doing. Watch his message below. Read More »

After eight seasons of playing the stubborn, selfish, and mean-spirited — but ultimately helpful — Dr. Gregory House on TV, Hugh Laurie is about to go full-on evil for the big screen. The Brit actor has just signed on for José Padilha‘s upcoming remake for MGM of Paul Verhoeven‘s 1987 sci-fi classic Robocop, in the role of the villainous Omni Corp CEO. Laurie joins an intriguing cast that includes lead Joel Kinnaman, and co-stars Gary Oldman, Abbie Cornish, and Samuel L. Jackson. More details after the jump.

Abbie Cornish in Talks for ‘Robocop’

Whatever doubts you may still have about MGM’s Robocop remake, at least director José Padilha is recruiting a strong cast to help him out. The Killing star Joel Kinnaman was confirmed as the title character earlier this year, and since then Padilha’s been filling out the supporting roles with stars like Gary Oldman and Samuel L. Jackson – and now Abbie Cornish, who has been offered the female lead. More details after the jump.

I expect some of you might be more inclined to see Jose Padilha‘s remake of RoboCop, now that Gary Oldman will be in it. Today news came out that Oldman will play a major role opposite Joel Kinnaman, who was cast a few weeks back as the new version of Alex Murphy, a cop who is killed (nearly killed?) but revived as a cyborg police officer.

I bet many will do the same thing I did and assume that Oldman will be playing either the role held by Ronny Cox in the original, or even one of the roles played to such memorable effect by Kurtwood Smith or Miguel Ferrer. In fact, Oldman’s casting reveals some new information about the remake, as he’s playing a new character named Norton, aka the guy who creates RoboCop. Read More »

I don’t necessarily love this current trend of churning out character posters for every single actor in an ensemble cast, but when the line-up is as good as this one, I can’t complain. Seven new character posters have dropped for John Hillcoat‘s Prohibition-era thriller Lawless, showing stars Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf, Jessica Chastain, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Guy Pearce, and Mia Wasikowska each trying their best to give off a tough-guy (or girl) glower. Check ‘em out after the jump.
