lullaby trailer

Have you ever sat around pining for a film to double with Country Strong in an evening of music-themed Garrett Hedlund movies that will make you cry your face off? (Or movies that want to make you cry, at least.) The answer to your prayers may have arrived. The Lullaby trailer reveals an indie family drama featuring Hedlund as a guy who finds that his father is going to take himself off life support within 48 hours.

That leaves the family with just a couple days to come to terms with a whole lot of things, most of which is pretty serious, heart-rending stuff. With a cast that also includes Richard Jenkins, Amy Adams, Jessica Brown Findlay, Anne Archer, Terrence Howard, Jennifer Hudson, and Jessica Barden, are a lot of faces to pull you in, should Hedlund not be to your liking. Check out the Lullaby trailer below.

Garrett-Hedlund-Inside-Llewyn-Davis

Briefly: The dark Peter Pan origin story Pan may have one of its main characters: Garrett Hedlund has been offered the role of Captain Hook. Joe Wright (Atonement, Hanna) is set to direct, with the film slated for a summer 2015 release.

But Hedlund won’t be the villain; the film starts off with Peter and the future Captain Hook as friends. Hook has a crew job on Blackbeard’s ship, and the Jason Fuchs script features Blackbeard as the villain. Hugh Jackman has been linked to the Blackbeard role, but there’s no Pan yet. [THR]

Inside Llewyn Davis

The Coen BrothersInside Llewyn Davis has earned strong buzz from the get-go, picking up the Grand Jury Prize shortly after its Cannes debut and earning Best Feature at the Gotham Independent Film Awards this past weekend. Now, after months of hype and even more months of marketing, it’s finally about to arrive in theaters.

Oscar Isaac leads the drama as Llewyn, a singer trying to make his way around the folk scene in the early ’60s. He’s not having an easy go of it: his solo career isn’t taking off, his best friend’s girlfriend is pissed at him, and he doesn’t even have a proper coat to keep him warm through the winter. But his misfortune is our good luck, as his many trials make for a pretty great film. Watch the newest U.K. trailer after the jump.

Josh Brolin Sin City

Three major films have some not so major updates: two sets of casting rumors and a small title change. After the jump, read about the following:

  • A few names, including Emilia Clarke and Garrett Hedlund have been mentioned to possibly be up for Sarah and John Connor in Terminator 5.
  • Here we go again. Jonah Hill and Emma Stone‘s names have been mentioned again regarding Ghostbusters 3.
  • Sin City: A Dame To Kill For has reportedly been renamed Sin City: A Dame to Die For.

Inside Llewyn Davis

Whereas some filmmakers prefer to stick with one mode or another, the Coen Bros. have shown an ability to leap from Depression-era Greek musical epic to ’90s stoner neo-noir comedy to violent Oscar-winning thriller. Their newest film, Inside Llewyn Davis, sees them dropping by ’60s New York for an intimate character study of a folk musician.

Oscar Isaac stars as the title character, who’s loosely based on real-life singer Dave Von Ronk. Backing him up are an intriguing supporting cast, including Carey Mulligan, John Goodman, Justin Timberlake, and Garrett Hedlund, and a poignant soundtrack mostly comprised of folk covers. Watch the newest trailer and get the soundtrack info after the jump.

Inside Llewyn Davis

There’s a new film from Joel and Ethan Coen this year, and that is a wonderful thing. The first footage we saw from the movie, Inside Llewyn Davis, announced a preview screening and introduced us to the folk singer played by Oscar Issac, and to characters played by Carey Mulligan, John Goodman and a few others. (Along with a cute cat.)

A new red-band trailer changes just a few things from that first look — a bit of Carey Mulligan’s dialogue is cut, as is one telling shot of John Goodman, and there are a few extra shots at the end to help ID the cast. (As with the prior trailer, this is “red-band” only for a bit of cursing.) Not that the changes really matter, as the effect is much the same. If you didn’t see the screening invite trailer when we posted it in January, here’s your chance to follow along.

Look at it this way: the takeaway here is that this trailer has just a bit of new footage, and for Coen fans that’s probably enough. There’s also a new poster to go along with the film’s Cannes debut. Both are below. Read More »

Good news for Coen Brothers fans: the pair’s new film, Inside Lleywn Davis, has a home. CBS Films bought the movie for US theatrical distribution. We don’t have a release date yet, though we can likely expect to see it this year. A trailer for the film was released in January, but that won’t be the final look at the indie that Joel and Ethan Coen shot last year. (The movie was the first one they did in many years without any studio or distributor backing.)

The film stars Oscar Isaac as the title character, a folk singer navigating life in New York in the ’60s. The supporting cast includes Carey Mulligan, John Goodman, Garrett Hedlund, F. Murray Abraham, and Justin Timberlake. Read More »

For their follow-up to 2010′s True Grit, Joel and Ethan Coen are heading to a whole other time and place. Based on the memoir The Mayor of MacDougal Street by musician Dave Van Ronk, Inside Llewyn Davis follows the a rising singer-songwriter (Oscar Isaac) through the folk music scene in ’60s New York. The film’s been at the top of my most-anticipated list pretty much since the moment I heard about it, and today we finally have a look at some footage. Watch the first trailer after the jump, but be warned that it contains a bit of salty language.
