It doesn’t sound like any number of clapping hands will save Joe Wright‘s latest adaptation of Pan from being a huge failure for Warner Bros. Pictures, after a dismal performance at the box office this past weekend.
The adaptation of J.M. Barrie‘s classic fairy tale cost about $150 million to make, and that’s not including the hefty marketing costs. However, when Pan hit theaters this weekend, it opened at #3 with just over $15 million in the United States and only around $25 million from 54 international markets. It’s safe to say the Pan box office is a disaster. So what does this mean for the studio? Read More »

Tron fans wept when Disney finally pulled the plug on the threequel, after years of on-again, off-again development. But star Garrett Hedlund isn’t mourning the death of the franchise, mainly because he doesn’t actually believe it’s “totally dead.” Does he have new intel, or is he just a stubborn optimist? The new version of J.M. Barrie’s classic fairytale doesn’t hit theaters until October 9th, pushed back from an original summer release earlier this year, but the premiere of Pan from director Joe Wright just had its premiere across the pond this weekend, and the first reviews are pouring in.
The trailers for the film starring Hugh Jackman, Garrett Hedlund, Rooney Mara and newcomer Levi Miller have painted quite the visual spectacle with energetic adventure and a live-action take on the familiar tale that takes to the skies in a way that we haven’t really seen before, complete with flying pirate ships and an origin story of Peter Pan where he begins as a friend of James Hook, only later to become sworn enemies.
So how does the movie fare? Get the Pan early buzz after the jump! Read More »

Our next live-action fairy tale retelling comes not from Disney, but from Warner Bros. and the mind of Joe Wright. Pan is an origin story of sorts for both Peter Pan (Levi Miller) and his mortal enemy, Captain Hook (played here by Garrett Hedlund in dashing Indiana Jones mode). Rounding out the cast are Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily and Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard. Watch the Pan trailer after the jump. Read More »
Cool Posts From Around the Web:
With news surfacing that The LEGO Movie and 21 Jump Street directors Phil Lord & Chris Miller will be at the helm of a new Star Wars Anthology film focusing on a young Han Solo, everyone is wondering just who will play the charismatic smuggler.
Harrison Ford made the role iconic in the original Star Wars trilogy, and he’ll be reprising the role in The Force Awakens. But Ford can’t play a young version of the character without extensive visual effects, so some younger actor is going to have to get in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon. The question is who can pull it off?
We’ve rounded up some possibilities, some likely, some not, and some more preferable than others. Check out our list of 20 Actors Who Should Play Han Solo after the jump! Read More »
The story of Peter Pan is reconfigured in Pan, from Atonement and Hanna director Joe Wright. While J.M. Barrie‘s most well-known creation, the Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up, is a perpetually immature child, there’s still room in his youth for a backstory.
And this version of Peter seems quite different, with — at least briefly — a strong sense of purpose and determination. See him in action along with Garrett Hedlund as a young James Hook, Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily, and Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard (who even has a ship that bears his own face) in the new Pan trailer. At the end of Mojave, a devilish drifter played by Oscar Isaac poses a question to a jaded Hollywood star played by Garrett Hedlund: “Do you know yet which one of us is the bad guy?” That, I guess, is the question being posed by writer-director William Monahan (The Departed) in this odd thriller. But the question I walked away from was an entirely different one: “What’s the difference between poetry and pretentious pablum?” Read More »
Talk of Tron 3 shooting this October has intensified over the past few weeks, with Joseph Kosinki said to be set to return to direct and Garrett Hedlund preparing to reprise the role of Sam Flynn, the character he played in Tron Legacy. Now, despite the fact that Disney is being very quiet about the movie, we know that Olivia Wilde will be back as well, to play Quorra. Read More »
