Redshirts

Crew members on a 25th century starship are dying left and right, and eventually realize they’re actually fulfilling the actions of a 21st century TV show. That’s the plot of the award-winning novel Redshirts by John Scalzi, which is now being turned into a TV show on FX. Read More »

Jessica-Lange-American-Horror-Story-Coven

While some actors carry through multiple seasons, and there’s always a general tone of “batshit crazy,” American Horror Story has never been quite definable. It has used a haunted house, an asylum and witches so far, making variety a notable trait of the show. That’ll continue into the fourth season. Co-creator Ryan Murphy recently revealed the fourth season of the series would be another period piece set in the year 1950. “If you look historically what happened in the year 1950, there’s some more clues in that year,” he said.

Galifianakis Hangover

FX has landed some major comedic star power for a bunch of new pilots. Billy Crystal has a show called The Comedian, Tracy Morgan has a show called Death Pact, Denis Leary has a show called Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll and that’s not the half of it.

There are 12 new pilots in total and the two most exciting might be a new show created by and starring Zach Galifianakis, which will be co-produced and co-written by Louis C.K. It’s the first show in C.K.’s new deal. Then, Oscar-winning writer Charlie Kaufman‘s new show How and Why has cast John Hawkes and Michael Cera in key roles. Read More »

‘Justified’ Likely to End After Season 6, Says FX

Justified Season 5

As Justified enters its fifth season, fans may want to savor their time with Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant). There may not be too much of it left.

Showrunner Graham Yost has previously said that he sees his Western drama running for six seasons, and though it’s not unheard of for a show to run beyond its originally intended lifespan if it proves popular enough, it seems that in this case he has the network backing him up. At a recent event, FX president Nick Grad confirmed that a six-season run is “the plan right now.” Hit the jump to find out why.

Fargo

The Coen Brothers don’t have a new film out in 2014, but their presence will be felt on the pop culture landscape all the same. Among the intriguing oddities being offered up by the TV gods this year is Fargo, an FX limited series based on the duo’s 1996 hit.

Technically speaking, the new Fargo is neither a remake nor a sequel for the first one. What it shares with the original is the cold northern setting and the “Minnesota nice” tone. At the center of this version is insurance salesman Lester Nygaard (played by the ubiquitous Martin Freeman), a sort of updated take on William H. Macy’s Jerry Lundegaard. Hit the jump to see him and some other new characters in the first stills from the show.
