Jim Broadbent, Imogen Poots Join Irvine Welsh Adaptation ‘Filth’

When last we checked in with the film adaptation of Irvine Welsh‘s novel Filth, which is being directed by Jon S. Baird, the days were still long and warm. That August update revealed that the film about an evil Edinburgh cop would feature James McAvoy, Jamie Bell and Alan Cumming in the key roles.

The film is about to shoot, with a start date set for next week, and it has added a few people. Jim Broadbent, Eddie Marsan, Joanne Froggatt and Imogen Poots are on board now, all of which is good news. But it seems like Alan Cumming might have fallen away. More details on that below. Read More »

James McAvoy, Jamie Bell and Alan Cumming Starring in Adaptation of Irvine Welsh Novel ‘Filth’

Films based on a few different Irvine Welsh novels have been in development in the decade-plus since the adaptation of his debut novel Trainspotting became a trans-Atlantic hit. One of those getting the film treatment has been Filth, a book about “an evil Edinburgh cop,” for which the author has been acting as producer.

Jon S. Baird (director of British film Cass) will direct, and it turns out that the core cast is going to be more than up to the challenge of dealing with Welsh’s notoriously raucous material. James McAvoy, Jamie Bell and Alan Cumming are the names we have right now, and the idea of seeing McAvoy play a cop messed-up enough to rival Harvey Keitel’s classic Bad Lieutenant sounds pretty great.
