Thor Ragnarok Comic-Con Footage and Panel

Members of the /Film staff spent much of the past week in San Diego to cover Comic-Con 2017, the enormous convention that explores every single corner of the geek world (and surely you’ve heard of it and already knew that). We saw footage from Marvel’s upcoming movies, including Avengers: Infinity War. We were able to listen to Steven Spielberg talk about Ready Player One. We explored the world of Blade Runner 2049 in a special VR experience. We watched 7,000 people go totally nuts over the first trailer for Stranger Things season 2.

But that’s only the tip of the iceberg. We’ve compiled all of our Comic-Con coverage from the past week into one handy post, organized by category. So please: peruse and enjoy and get your fix.

fear the walking dead comic-con panel

Appropriately, Fear the Walking Dead served as a warm-up act to its parent show at Comic-Con in San Diego, premiering a new trailer for a packed house of fans. While AMC’s zombie spin-off has never achieved the overwhelming popularity of the original The Walking Dead, it definitely offers a different flavor of zombie apocalypse via the Mexican locations and a timeframe that places the action much earlier in the franchise timeline.

With the second half of the show’s third season returning this September, the series looks to bring its various story threads to a boiling point. As you’d expect, the details we learned and the footage we saw promised a grim future for the various survivors.

avatar sequels

Here’s more news to solidify that the Avatar sequels are actually happening: Fear the Walking Dead star Cliff Curtis will be joining all four sequels to the James Cameron sci-fi epic in a lead role.

Curtis’ role will expand the mythology of the Avatar universe by taking the series underwater, which Cameron has hinted at, and which posed many obstacles for the motion-capture technology that Avatar uses.

fear the walking dead comic-con trailer

The upcoming midseason premiere of AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead gives its characters a change of scenery. Following the previous six episodes from season two, the story now takes place in Mexico. The move from California to Mexico “was the right move for the story, and hopefully, that’ll continue,” writer and producer Dave Erickson told a packed Hall H.

Below, you can watch the Fear the Walking Dead trailer and read what else Erickson and the cast had to say at Comic-Con.

fear the walking dead comic-con trailer

I haven’t been keeping up with AMC‘s Fear the Walking Dead, but I will say this much about the new trailer that just premiered at Comic-Con 2016: it’s genuinely refreshing to see a zombie TV series that’s not set in the backwoods of Georgia. While its parent series has generally hung around a single region for seven seasons, the young spin-off has been steadily journeying down the west coast of the United States, spending a portion of the second season on a boat. When the show returns for the back half of its second season, the action will shift to Mexico as the main cast is scattered to the winds.

And you can get a look at what to expect by watching the trailer below.

Fear the Walking Dead

On the red carpet for PaleyFest’s panel for Fear the Walking Dead, producers Dave Erickson and Gale Anne Hurd spoke to reporters about the upcoming second season. The prequel to The Walking Dead ended its six-episode first season last fall, with (spoiler alert!) the survivors in Los Angeles finding a boat to take them away from land and the hordes of infected people the rest of us know as walkers.

“Many, many fans of The Walking Dead said that they had the solution to the zombie apocalypse,” Hurd told reporters. “They’d take a boat and go to sea. Well, you know what? They’re going to find out whether that was really the answer or not. I think some of what they’ll see will surprise them.”  Read More »

fear the walking dead season 2

While AMC’s The Walking Dead continues to grab headlines left and right as it casts strong actors as frightening villains and riles fans up with wacky plot twists and big developments, Fear the Walking Dead has just been kind of sitting there. The first season of the spin-off, which turns back to the clock to the earliest days of the zombie apocalypse and takes place on a separate coast entirely, received mixed reviews from fans and critics alike. Every joy came coupled with a frustration, which really is the Walking Dead experience in a nutshell.

With Fear the Walking Dead returning next month, AMC has released new key art that seemingly teases the focus of the new season. Yep, it’s time explore the zombie apocalypse from a boat.
