The marketing campaign for the next Fast & Furious movie has officially kicked into high gear. Today Universal finally confirmed the Furious 7 title by revealing the first Furious 7 poster. Additionally, they’ve confirmed details on next weekend’s Furious 7 trailer release, which will be an interactive fan event. Get all the details after the jump.

Fast Six - Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Justin Lin

As family, friends, colleagues, and fans mourn Paul Walker‘s tragic death, the filmmakers behind Fast & Furious 7 are left with the unenviable task of figuring out how to proceed without one of their stars. One of the options being floated, according to a recent report, is to scrap the movie entirely and start over from the beginning.

In the meantime, the studio has hit upon one way to honor the star’s memory. A portion of the proceeds from home entertainment sales of Fast & Furious 6 will go toward Walker’s charity Reach Out Worldwide. Hit the jump for more on Universal’s plans for both movies.

Update: Universal issued a statement this morning saying that Fast & Furious 7 has been shut down for now. The future of the film in its current incarnation is unknown. Read the statement below.

Fast and Furious 7 - Paul Walker, Tyrese Gibson, Vin Diesel

Prior to the car crash that claimed the life of Paul Walker this past weekend, production on Fast and the Furious 7 was set to resume this week in Atlanta after a break for the Thanksgiving holiday. Now the production team faces not only the tremendous grief for their friend, but the fact that he was part of a huge undertaking that a giant corporation sees as a key element of its fiscal success for 2014.

There are conflicting details about the future of Fast 7 at this point, but the consensus at this point is at least this: the film must be significantly rewritten, and will likely be completed. Whether it will be finished in time for a July 11, 2014 release date — an ambitious plan even under prime circumstances — remains to be seen. Read More »
