Now that Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has introduced Young Grindelwald, the race is on to guess who’ll fill the role of Young Dumbledore in the sequel. And one name that’s come up again and again in that conversation is Jared Harris, in part because he’s about as close as you can get to a younger clone of the existing Dumbledore — he’s the son of Richard Harris, who played Old Dumbledore in the first two Harry Potter movies.
Well, it turns out Harris has heard about all that speculation too. In a recent interview, he addressed the Dumbledore Jared Harris fantasy casting talk, warning that the decision is not his to make. Read More »
Even though Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) was the main character in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, that doesn’t necessarily mean he will be in the four impending sequels that are set to cover 19 years of narrative time in the wizarding world.
In a recent conversation, franchise producer David Heyman confirmed that Mr. Scamander won’t always be at the center of each movie. Honestly, that’s probably for the best.
Find out more about the Fantastic Beasts sequels after the jump, but beware of major spoilers for the first movie. Read More »
This past weekend, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them dominated the box office by taking in an estimated $75 million. That’s not as big as the primary Harry Potter franchise installments, but it’s still an impressive opening weekend. But even before the box office numbers were in, we knew there would be Fantastic Beasts sequels, four to be exact.
We have already gotten some details on what to expect from Fantastic Beasts 2, including a bigger role for Johnny Depp as the dark wizard Grindelwald, and an unnamed actor as a young Dumbledore (we have some suggestions of our own on that front). And now we have confirmation that a certain character who is only merely referenced in the first Fantastic Beasts movie will have a prominent role in the developing sequel. We’ll let you know who it is after the jump, because it’s a bit of a spoiler for the first movie. Read More »
Even before Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hit theaters this weekend, we knew that the future of what is now a five-film franchise would have a focus on the villainous plans of Gellert Grindelwald, played by Johnny Depp. This includes his conflict with Albus Dumbledore, who we know eventually stops him in 1945 thanks to the Harry Potter books.
As such, casting is underway to find an actor other than Michael Gambon to play Albus Dumbledore since the character is roughly 60 years younger in the Fantastic Beasts timeline than he is in the Harry Potter franchise. There haven’t been any names mentioned as being in talks for the role yet, so now that audiences are flocking to see Fantastic Beasts this weekend, we thought we’d propose some potential names for who should play young Albus Dumbledore in the future sequels. Find out who made our list after the jump. Read More »
One of the most satisfying things about Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is being able to watch a movie set in the wizarding world of Harry Potter where we don’t know what’s going to happen. Just like when we used to read the latest installment of J.K. Rowling‘s book franchise, we’re meeting new characters, discovering new details and seeing a story unfold for the first time. Even though the first film in this new franchise has some shortcomings, it certainly sets the stage for a promising series.
Another interesting aspect of Fantastic Beasts is that the movie introduces us to a new creature called an Obscurus that may help explain a certain event in the life of Albus Dumbledore that hasn’t been explored in the movies yet. Let’s dive into the Fantastic Beasts Obscurus connection to the Harry Potter series after the jump, but beware of some major spoilers for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Read More »
The Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is in theaters everywhere now, and the movie is on par to make around $75 million in its opening weekend. Granted that’s not as big as any of the Harry Potter franchise films opened, but that’s to be expected when we’re not dealing with many characters that fans aren’t familiar with, and the movie will still be a hit worldwide.
As we know, Warner Bros. Pictures already has four sequels in the works. While the first film doesn’t end with a cliffhanger, it does open up a whole new world of possibilities, and it turns out a deleted scene almost had a more obvious set up for future movies. Director David Yates explained what this Fantastic Beasts deleted scene entailed, but in order to discuss it we have to dive into major spoiler territory, both for this movie and what’s in store for the sequels. So if you want to know more, you’ll have to keep reading after the jump. Read More »
Long before Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was even close to hitting theaters, we were made aware that a trilogy was planned for the Harry Potter spin-off title directed by David Yates. However, just last month fans were surprised to learn that what was once a trilogy was now being planned as a five film series, according to Harry Potter author and first-time screenwriter J.K. Rowling.
Now some new details on those sequels have surfaced regarding just how much time the sequels will cover in the wizarding world, and who will be directing the sequels from here on out. Find out the new details on the Fantastic Beasts sequels after the jump. Read More »
