Production is now underway on the star-studded mountain climbing drama, Everest. Directed by Baltasar Kormákur (Contraband), Everest features Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes and Jake Gyllenhaal telling the true story of two groups of climbers who attempted to summit the world’s highest mountain in what turned out to be a horrible snowstorm. Universal Pictures just dated seven major upcoming releases including three in 2015. The biggest titles are Guillermo del Toro‘s Crimson Peak, which will hit regular and IMAX theaters October 16, 2015 and Pitch Perfect 2, which’ll be out May 15, 2015. Benedict Cumberbatch is being eyed to star as George Mallory in Doug Liman‘s Everest, with Joel Kinnaman, James McAvoy, Tom Hiddleston, Henry Cavill, Luke Evans, Dan Stevens, Matthew Goode, and Jim Sturgess also in the mix.

Tom Hardy Looking to Scale ‘Everest’ With Doug Liman

If you’re going to make a movie about a guy who attempted one of the most difficult feats known to man not once, not twice, but three separate times, you’re going to need an actor who actually looks up to the challenge. Yet another Jeffrey Archer-based project is in the works, the third announced this month. Bourne director Doug Liman has signed on to direct Everest, an adaptation of Archer’s novel Paths of Glory. Up in the Air scribe Sheldon Turner is writing the script, which fictionalizes the story of real-life mountaineer George Mallory and his three attempts in the ’20s to become the first man to reach the top of the world’s highest mountain.
