Last time we heard about the film Blackbird, it was called Kin. That was when Eric Bana and Olivia Wilde were cast as “two desperate sibling fugitives (Eric Bana and Olivia Wilde) on the run who subsequently collide with the holiday homecoming of a troubled ex-boxer (Charlie Hunnam).” The film’s name has changed, but that cast remains the same.

Now Kate Mara and Treat Williams have taken roles, playing a father and daughter who factor into the story. Sissy Spacek and Kris Kristofferson are also on board as the parents of Charlie Hunnam’s boxer. That’s a pretty cool parent pairing; in general this is shaping up with quite the strong cast. Stefan Ruzowitzky is directing from a script by Zach Dean, and the film shoots in March in Montreal. [Variety]

One of the soon-to-be-released films that’s currently flying under the radar is Hanna, directed by Joe Wright and starring Saoirse Ronan, Eric Bana and Cate Blanchett. Focusing on a young girl trained as an assassin by her father, we’ve already seen a domestic and international trailer and now we’ve got two clips adding up to three minutes of footage and a slew of slick new images including an upgraded poster. Word around the campfire is that Wright has a winner with Hanna, a blend of Hit Girl in Kick Ass with the emotion of Leon: The Professional complete with cool music by The Chemical Brothers and a compelling story wrapped around it all. Form your own opinion by checking out the material after the jump. Hanna will be released April 8. Read More »

‘Hanna’ International Trailer

Hanna

Focus Features has released a new international movie trailer for Joe Wright‘s Hanna, which stars Academy Award nominee Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones) as a 16-year-old killing machine in. Saoirse plays the title character in Hanna, who has been “raised from childhood to be the perfect assassin by her ex-CIA man father (Eric Bana) in rural Finland.” Wright is probably best known for his period dramas Atonement and Pride & Prejudice. Hanna is a different type of film: an action/adventure/thriller. The film also stars Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett (Robin Hood), Eric Bana (Star Trek), and Niels Arestrup (Un Prophète).

The film looks completely different from Wright’s recent filmography, movies like Atonement and Pride & Prejudice. Watch the trailer now embedded after the jump. Please leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Changes are afoot for By Virtue Fall, the movie written by Sheldon Turner which will also mark his directorial debut. The film is about “a man who is framed by his mentor and winds up in prison. Once released, he’s fixated on getting revenge on his former partner, who has flourished in his new life and tried to cleanse himself of the past.”

Not long ago, Colin Farrell and Eric Bana were said to be circling the major roles, but money seemed like a sticking point. Evidently some things weren’t resolved, as Farrell is no longer in the running, and he could be replaced by Jeremy Renner. Plus, we’ve got more story details thanks to a script review. Read More »

Noah Baumbach‘s latest film Greenberg is opening to fairly strong reception, and while there’s that word that he’s helping rewrite the heist film Tower Heist for Brett Ratner, I figured that it might be a moment before we heard anything for certain about Baumbach’s next directorial project.

But Baumbach is already signing to direct The Emperor’s Children, for producer Brian Grazer. Ron Howard was previously attached to direct from a script by Baumbach, but he’s handed over the reigns. Read More »
