The trailer for Brave, Pixar’s next full-length animated film, will arrive tomorrow. In anticipation of that look at the film three new stills have come online. The pics show most of the film’s major characters, and reinforce the impression given off by the teaser that this might be Pixar’s most fully-realized world.
Brave is Pixar’s first film with a central female protagonist, and Kelly Macdonald voices Merida, a rebellious young princess who brings trouble to her land after breaking an ancient custom. That’s her in the image above, and you’ll meet other characters in the gallery below.

If you’re the kind of person who got all emotional during all those Harry Potter cast interviews about shooting the final scene, or if you referred to the last movie, without irony, as “the end of an era,” then When Harry Left Hogwarts is for you. The documentary, by BAFTA-winning filmmaker Morgan Matthews (The Fallen), chronicles the making of David Yates‘ Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 and Part 2, and will make you get teary-eyed all over again as cast members talk about what it’s been like to be part of the franchise for the past ten years. Watch the trailer after the jump.

It’s tough to think of a director more suited to adapt Claire Messud‘s acclaimed “disenchanted upper class New Yorkers” novel than Noah Baumbach, so it’s a bummer to hear that the filmmaker has now pulled out of the project. On the plus side, his replacement sounds like an interesting, if not quite as obvious, choice — Scott Cooper, who made his directorial debut with 2009′s Crazy Heart and hasn’t helmed another picture since. More details after the jump.

Almost three years back, Emma Thompson and her husband Greg Wise starting to drop info about a script they’d written called Effie, which would follow Victorian art critic, social thinker and poet John Ruskin, who had a strange and ultimately disastrous marriage to a woman named Euphemia ‘Effie’ Gray. Ruskin couldn’t consummate the marriage, and Effie finally fell for Ruskin’s protege John Everett Millais.
A few different actresses have been attached or rumored for the role of Effie Gray, most notably Carey Mulligan and Saoirse Ronan. Now the film is finally coming together with Richard Laxton (An Englishman in New York) directing and Dakota Fanning playing Effie. Read More »

No one will ever argue that this past weekend was Pixar’s best, as Cars 2 opened with a solid but not overwhelming take and a fairly dismal critical reception. But there is a bright spot: the teaser trailer for next year’s Pixar summer film, the fairy tale Brave. The teaser is now online, and it is a small piece of beauty. Check it out below. Read More »

Editor’s Update: I have updated the story with a new super high resolution photo officially released by Disney of Brave’s main protagonist. Hit the jump to see the full image.
If you pay to see Cars 2 this weekend or in the near future you’ll be treated to a teaser for the Pixar film that is due to be released a year from now: Brave, once called The Bear and the Bow. We don’t have that teaser online just yet, but yesterday the first teaser poster arrived (complete with a small, misty look at the bear that was once in the title) and now we have good new looks at three of the main characters. Check them out, along with a high-res version of the teaser poster, after the break. Read More »

One of Will Smith‘s kids has his own remake franchise brewing (Jaden, and The Karate Kid) so now the erstwhile Fresh Prince is working on balancing his family dynamics by crafting a similar film for daughter Willow. The property in question this time is Annie, in which Willow Smith will play the moppet adopted by Oliver ‘Daddy’ Warbucks. In this version, there will probably be some dancing to pop tunes crafted by Jay-Z, who is also producing, and possibly at least a small touch of Nanny McPhee. Wait, what?
Emma Thompson, who scripted both Nanny McPhee films (as well as the ’95 Sense and Sensibility) is being courted by Will Smith and Overbrook Productions to write the new Annie remake. Read More »

This might not be Pixar’s best week, with Cars 2 premiering to generally unfavorable reviews. (Germain was more charitable to it than others, but still said “it places near the bottom of [Pixar's] impressive list.”)
But with Cars 2 comes a teaser trailer for Brave, the film the studio will release next June. That teaser may not appear online for a bit, but a teaser poster has been spotted in the wild for Brave as well, and you can see it in full after the fold. Read More »
