Watch an Adorable Blooper Reel for ‘The Lego Movie’

Lego Movie blooper reel

The Lego Movie isn’t perfect, but it’s close enough. Every aspect, from the performances to the soundtrack to the meticulously constructed sets, was excellent, or “awesome,” as protagonist Emmet would put it. All that effort paid off handsomely, earning Phil Lord and Chris Miller‘s film an impressive $69 million opening weekend and a sky-high 96% Rotten Tomatoes score.

But of course, it only looks flawless because all of the mishaps and mistakes were left on the cutting room floor. Until now, that is. Warner Bros. has released a fully animated “blooper reel” from the movie, featuring the voices of Chris Pratt, Will Arnett, Morgan Freeman, Alison Brie, and more. Check it out after the jump.

The Lego Movie

It’s not tough to imagine the pitch meeting where The Lego Movie was conceived. The toys have been a familiar fixture of toy chests since the ’40s, and given that every other remotely recognizable playroom property is getting adapted for the big screen these days, it was only a matter of time before someone grabbed a fistful of plastic bricks. Lucky for us, those people turned out to be Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and 21 Jump Street directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

Pitch Perfect Wilson Kendrick

Briefly: It has a director and a release date, and now Pitch Perfect 2 has its biggest stars. In what was pretty much a no-brainer, Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson have both signed on to star in the a capella sequel already set to hit theaters on May 15, 2015. Co-star and producer Elizabeth Banks will make her directorial debut from a script by Kay Cannon.

In the first film, Kendrick and Wilson were the breakout stars. Having each sign to return was likely the most crucial dealmaking for the returning cast. With them locked in, things are full steam ahead. Aca-excellent. [The Hollywood Reporter].

The Lego Movie

In the wrong hands, The Lego Movie could’ve been a lazy, forgettable kids’ film with no obvious purpose other than pushing more plastic bricks. But as directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, it’s looking like a very early contender for the year’s best animated film — funny, smart, energetic, and far more original than we have any reason to expect a film based on a toy would be.

With every new bit of marketing that rolls out, it’s looking more and more promising. Today, we have nine new clips from the film totaling about eight minutes of footage. Chris Pratt leads the voice cast as Emmet, an extraordinarily ordinary minifig who is accidentally drafted to lead a revolution against the evil President Business (Will Ferrell).
