Magic Mike XXL

Steven Soderbergh’s Magic Mike was a thoughtful examination of the American dream, but of course the real draw was the gyrating hardbodies on stage. So far, Magic Mike XXL seems to be leaning into that raunchy appeal, with a marketing campaign heavy on half-naked torsos and naughty puns. Not that we’re complaining.

The newest Magic Mike XXL trailer continues in the same vein, commenting on how hard (wink wink) it was to resist showing off all the best parts (nudge nudge) of the movie. Even so, there’s plenty to enjoy here. Feast your eyes on the new Magic Mike XXL trailer after the jump. Read More »

Elizabeth Banks in Walk of Shame

Elizabeth Banks and Paul Giamatti will be going head-to-head on the tennis court. The pair have signed on for HBO Films’ untitled project about the 1973 “Battle of the Sexes” match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs.

Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman will produce through Playtone, along with Banks and her Brownstone Productions partner (and husband) Max Handelman. David Auburn (Proof) will write the script. More on the Elizabeth Banks Billie Jean King movie after the jump.  Read More »

Love & Mercy

Brian Wilson wasn’t a conventional person, so why should he get a conventional biopic? Love & Mercy casts not one but two actors as the Beach Boys musician. Paul Dano plays him in the 1960s, when he was a young man on track for greatness; John Cusack plays him in the 1980s, as he’s struggling to get out from under an abusive relationship with his doctor Eugene Landy (Paul Giamatti).

Leaving aside the fact that Dano, Cusack, and Wilson don’t really look alike at all, Love & Mercy seems like an artful exploration of an American music icon. Elizabeth Banks also stars as Melinda Ledbetter, the woman who would become Wilson’s second wife. Watch the Love and Mercy trailer after the jump.

Hunger Games Mockingjay part 1 deleted scenes

Fans of the biggest film of 2014, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, are having a good day. The massive hit sequel is now available on digital HD ahead of its Blu-ray/On Demand debut, which comes on March 6. To make fans aware of the digital release, Lionsgate has put two of the film’s deleted scenes online.

The first is a specific side of the film we didn’t get in the theatrical cut. It’s a scene between President Snow (Donald Sutherland) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) that teases the crucial, brutal relationship between the two, which will pay off in Part 2. The second is a funny scene with Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) getting dolled up by Effie (Elizabeth Banks). See the Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 1 deleted scenes below. Read More »

Hunger Games MockingJay part 1 review

Note: This review was original published on November 10. We’ve bumped it up now that the film is in theaters.

It’s a shame The Hunger Games series gets filed into the “young adult” category. Sure, there’s some dystopian young romance in there, but with each subsequent film, the series proves it is about much more than unattainable love with sporadic action. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 takes the series to its furthest point from YA stereotypes yet.

However, what’s most interesting about this latest installment — the first part of a two-part finale — is just how different it is from the rest of the franchise. Is that a good thing? Below, read why The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 1 feels like a different franchise. Read More »

Pitch Perfect 2 trailer header

The Barden Bellas have already conquered the United States. In Pitch Perfect 2, they take on the world. Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson lead the cast of the a capella sequel, which hits theaters May 15. This time, the Bellas will attempt to win the world a capella championships, something no U.S. team has ever done. Along they way they’ll bond, go camping, haze new recruits and explore what looks like an underground world of a capella that includes David Cross, NFL star Clay Matthews and more.

But Pitch Perfect 2 isn’t all fun and games, as you’ll see right at the beginning of this trailer. It looks like there’s gonna be some emotion along side the jokes, part of the formula that made the 2012 original such a big cult hit. Below, watch the first Pitch Perfect 2 trailer.

UPDATE: We’ve added a bunch of photos from the set of the film. Check them out below. Read More »
