Brothers John Erick Dowdle and Drew Dowdle (Quarantine, Devil) have a new horror/thriller coming out, called As Above, So Below. The film follows a set of young explorers — or treasure hunters, really — who attempt to find a cache of riches under the streets of Paris. To get there, they go through the catacombs, that web of tunnels that act as ossuaries for about six million people and connect to old stone mines. FilmDistrict is turning into the distributor of odd orphans. It grabbed the former Miramax project Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, and is now reportedly about to pick up the Red Dawn remake directed by Bourne second-unit shooter Dan Bradley. MGM financed and shot the film in 2009 before undergoing bankruptcy and reorganization. The movie made news early this year when we became aware that the Chinese enemies were being digitally altered into North Korean adversaries, hopefully to avoid pissing off the rapidly expanding Chinese movie market.

As MGM has come out of bankruptcy and inched closer to being a real working studio once more, we’ve heard a lot about the potential for The Hobbit and a new James Bond film. We haven’t heard much at all, however, about the completed remake of Red Dawn, which has been sitting on the shelf for six months. Entertainment Weekly has revealed four new members of the cast of the 2010 Dan Bradley‘s remake of Red Dawn. MGM is producing the redo of the 1984 John Milius action war drama about a bunch of Colorado high school students who must run for cover then Soviet and Cuban troops invade their school. The students decide to wage their own guerrilla warfare against the invaders under the banner of their football team, The Wolverines.
- Josh Hutcherson (Journey to the Center of the Earth) will play the role of Robert, originated by C. Thomas Howell, the Wolverine’s tech geek and communications specialist who transforms into a warrior along the way.
- Isabel Lucas (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen) will play Erica, a role originated by Lea Thompson, the Wolverines’ head cheerleader and Matt’s girlfriend who becomes incarcerated in an internment camp after the invasion.
- Edwin Hodge (Mental) will play Danny, a role originated by Brad Savage, no longer the young kid but the cool kid in school, the Wolverines’ wide receiver, and Matt’s best friend.
- Connor Cruise (son of Tom Cruise, appeared in Seven Pounds) as Daryl, a role originated by Darrne Dalton — The mayor’s son, the youngest Wolverine, and Robert’s best friend
