Jennifer Lawrence / David O. Russell team-ups have become a recent staple of the awards movie season, and that’s true again this year. 20th Century Fox has just released the first full-length trailer for Joy, which has Lawrence as a fierce wife and mother who overcomes adversity to start her own business empire. Robert De Niro plays her dad, and Édgar Ramírez her husband. Bradley Cooper also stars, because of course he does.

Stephen Gaghan (above, center) doesn’t direct as many movies as we’d like to see him make. The Academy Award-winning writer behind Traffic hasn’t directed a movie for the big screen since 2006’s Syriana. Gaghan is known for writing more adult material than your typical studio movie, and because of that, he probably struggles to get his movies made. Thankfully, the writer and director is back behind the camera again, with Matthew McConaughey and Edgar Ramirez headlining his newest picture. We now have our Gold first look. Behold the film’s bald and sweaty McConaughey after the jump.

The new Point Break trailer reveals a wrinkle in the film’s plot: the criminals being tracked by young FBI agent Johnny Utah (Luke Bracey) may be using a search for enlightenment to as an excuse for their Robin Hood-like crimes. So all the extreme sports stuff in this new movie, which takes the scope of the action way beyond surfing (but also includes insane surfing) is part of a grand quest. Whether or not skateboarding off the bow of a yacht (as seen above) is part of that, I’m not sure.
Point Break also stars Édgar Ramírez as the new version of Bodhi, and also features Ray Winstone, Teresa Palmer, and Delroy Lindo. Check out the new trailer below. Read More »

Here’s your first Point Break remake trailer, showing off the new version of the 1991 movie that starred Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze. Point Break now features much more than surfing. Indeed, Warner Bros. trumpets that this film has “the most daring athleticism ever seen in a motion picture,” with stunts “performed by elite athletes representing the world’s best in class in big-wave surfing, wingsuit flying, sheer-face snowboarding, free rock climbing, and high-speed motorcycling.”
But wait! There are actors in the film, too. Édgar Ramírez (Zero Dark Thirty, Carlos) stars as the daredevil criminal Bodhi, while Luke Bracey (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) is young FBI agent Johnny Utah. Ray Winstone (Noah), Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies) and Delroy Lindo (Gone in Sixty Seconds) are in the film, too. Check out the trailer below. Read More »

That shot above looks like it could almost be Édgar Ramírez as Jon Snow from Game of Thrones, but in reality it is Ramírez as Simón Bolívar in the film The Liberator (aka Libertador). Or, if you want to be proper about it, the image shows Ramírez as Simón José Antonio de la Santísima Trinidad Bolívar y Palacios Ponte y Blanco, who lived from 1783 to 1830 and was one of the most important military leaders in Latin America’s effort to shrug off colonial Spanish rule. Now Bolívar is the subject of a biopic. Despite having the intensely talented Ramírez to play the man, the film seems like it is cut right from the mold of so many other biographic films. To get an idea of how it all came together, watch The Liberator trailer below. Read More »
