Director Duncan Jones has been talking about this science fiction film noir dream project Mute for years. Like so many passion projects, it always seemed to be just out of reach for the Moon and Source Code filmmaker, who has spent the past few years bringing Warcraft to life. With his big-budget fantasy epic nearing the homestretch, Jones can actually make Mute happen instead of just wistfully talking about it to anyone who will listen. After all, we’ve been using the same piece of concept art for every story about this movie for over five years. We need something new!
And now, we’re getting something new. Alexander Skarsgard and Paul Rudd have joined the cast, which is the first proper, actual evidence we’ve had in years that this movie could become a reality. More importantly, Jones has all but confirmed what he’s long teased: Mute will take place in the same universe as Moon.

Twitter can be a wretched hive of scum and villainy that feels engineered to fill you with crummy feelings and ruin your day… but it can also be a miraculous forum on which to witness incredible people engage in incredible conversations about incredible things. Or at least super-nerdy things. Or at least hilarious mean things. Based purely on the strength of a lengthy exchange between filmmakers Rian Johnson and Duncan Jones, Twitter has earned the right to exist for another few weeks or so.
What happens when the director of Star Wars Episode VIII challenges the director of Warcraft to a Twitter duel over the value of their respective film series? You can see for yourself below.

Earlier today we reported the unhappy news that Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim 2 had been “halted indefinitely,” but that’s not the only Legendary project that’s making Universal nervous. The studio reportedly sees Warcraft, due out next summer, as a “problem movie.”
That’s a worrying description, especially since the studio has yet to publicly release any footage for fans to judge for themselves. But director Duncan Jones isn’t bothered, and he makes a pretty good case as to why you shouldn’t be, either. Read his reaction to the Warcraft problem movie comments after the jump. Read More »
Director Duncan Jones has been coming to Comic Con with Warcraft for three years now. With the movie finally set to arrive in theaters just under a year from now, Comic-Con finally got a first look at some official footage from the video game adaptation, and it’s definitely something to talk about.
The footage on display has simultaneously some of the most beautiful visual effects footage I’ve ever seen, along with some of the most niche, heavy-fantasy, somewhat confusing story elements in recent memory. As someone who hasn’t ever dove into the world of Warcraft, I’ll do my best to break down what we saw in Hall H.

Duncan Jones is at Comic Con to promote Warcraft, and he’s got a few other things to say while talking about his upcoming third movie. Warcraft is very nearly done, with fewer than a dozen effects shots left to complete. And since the movie doesn’t release until June 2016, that leaves him with a lot of time until he has to hit the promo circuit. He’ll eventually get to work on a Warcraft sequel, and in fact he and Legendary have story ideas for two more movies.
What Jones seems most keen on doing, however, is filling the eleven months between now and the release of Warcraft by making another movie. Specifically, he hopes to finally shoot Mute, the future-set film he wrote several years ago and has called “a dark, dirty thriller.” Read More »
