Sense8 season 2 images / 202 - Lito, Capheus, Sun

With apologies to my loved ones, the best Christmas gift I got last year was the Sense8 holiday special. It had been over a year since the first season hit Netflix, and the two-hour extravaganza had everything I’d hoped for from the return — drama, action, romance, tons of earnest metaphysical nonsense, and, yes, even a meticulously choreographed orgy. Best of all, it heralded the arrival of even more episodes to come in the new year, with Sense8 season 2 scheduled to hit in May.

Of course, May’s still a ways away. But Netflix isn’t leaving us completely high and dry. They’ve just dropped a big batch of Sense8 season 2 images, teasing more good times, more bad times, and lots of sweet cluster meetings that are probably going to make me cry. Sense8 season 2 premiere date

Netflix comes bearing gifts. Whether they’re wanted or unwanted gifts, though, will depend on your tolerance for Lana and Lilly Wachowski and J. Michael Straczynski‘s brand of metaphysical sci-fi insanity. The streaming service has officially announced that a Sense8 Christmas special will drop later this month, just as we suspected. But that’s not all. They’ve also confirmed a Sense8 season 2 premiere date for 2017, and shared a batch of first-look photos from the new run of episodes.  Read More »

The show, which will run 10 episodes, was originally described only as “a gripping global tale of minds linked and souls hunted.” Now we know that Naveen Andrews (Lost)Daryl Hannah, and Brian J. Smith (Stargate Universe) will feature in the large ensemble cast. In addition to that trio, the show features almost another dozen primary names in it’s diverse cast. Read More »

‘Cloud Atlas’ Theatrical Trailer

Anyone who’s really eager to see the Andy and Lana Wachowski and Tom Tykwer‘s Cloud Atlas has likely already pored over that six-minute trailer released over the summer, but for the rest of the moviegoing public there’s now a more traditional two-minute theatrical version. Whichever camp you fall into, the new cut is worth checking out, as there’s a bit of fresh footage to be found here.

Based on David Mitchell‘s acclaimed novel, Cloud Atlas weaves together six tangentially related stories that traverse time and space. Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving, Ben Whishaw, Jim Broadbent, Hugh Grant, Susan Sarandon, and Bae Doona star, each playing a number of different characters across the different plotlines. Watch the trailer after the jump.

This isn’t the sort of movie that we normally see Hugh Grant agree to make. The guy is drawn to romcoms of various stripes, with the last vaguely edgy movie he made possibly being the ’96 thriller Extreme Measures.

So it’s a big surprise — and not an unpleasant one — to see Grant booking a role in Cloud Atlas, the century-spanning, genre-hopping literary adaptation from co-writers and co-directors Tom Tykwer and Andy & Lana Wachowski. Read More »
