It seems like biopics and other similar true life stories are exploding in development right now, and we’ve got casting for three big ones. First up, the Jimi Hendrix film All is By My Side has just added a young Keith Richards. British actor Ashley Charles will play the Rolling Stones songwriter and guitarist.
John Ridley is directing the film now, with Andre Benjamin as Hendrix, and Hayley Atwell as Linda Keith, who during the story’s time frame was dating Richards. She ‘discovered’ Hendrix and tried to get the Stones management to work with him, to no avail. Keith Richards likely won’t play a big part in the film, which chronicles the days before Hendrix made it big.
Fun fact checking: let’s see how people refer to Richards in this film. In ’63 the Stones manager started listing the guitarist as Keith Richard, and it wasn’t until the ’70s that he once again became Richards. [THR]

Here’s your first look at Sara Paxton being menaced by a shark in Shark Night 3D, which is directed by David R. Ellis. (He made Snakes on a Plane and the second and fourth Final Destination movies.) We don’t know much about the film, but I think we can reliably expect to see people getting chewed up by sharks, and this photo suggests exactly that. See the full thing after the break. Read More »
FX has officially canceled the best show on television that you weren’t watching, after only one season. Terriers had strong critical acclaim and a cult following, but mainstream audiences never found it due to a variety of reasons: a horrible title, bad marketing, and a plot which wasn’t excitingly explainable in one quick sentence. The series, created by Ted Griffin and exec produced by Griffin, Shawn Ryan and Tim Minear, starring Donal Logue and Michael Raymond-James as a former cop and reformed-criminal who team up to practice Private Investigation.
I’m very sad to learn this news as I was a big fan and supporter of the series. I still strongly recommend that everyone and anyone check out the series on iTunes or whenever the DVDs are released. The first season presents a strong narrative arc worthy of viewing despite the show’s early cancelation.
The film once called Shark Night 3D is now called The Untitled David R. Ellis 3D Shark Thriller, but at least it has a distributor. Relativity Media has picked up domestic rights to the film, which is in post-production right now, and will release it wide on a TDB date in 2011. Read More »
How serious can Zac Efron be? That’s mostly a rhetorical question because, his High School Musical past notwithstanding, the guy indicated in Me and Orson Welles that he might actually be able to bring it. But Charlie St. Cloud might be the real test. This is the movie where Efron’s character has to choose between the hot girl and life of a sailor on one hand, and literally spending time with the ghost of his dead brother on the other.
Actually, I don’t know why I wasted all this time saying anything other than “this movie looks like a Nicholas Sparks version of The Lovely Bones.” There, how does that make you feel? Tingly, I know. Read More »
