Guardians of the Galaxy origins

Disney is giving Guardians of the Galaxy the animated series treatment on Disney XD, joining the ranks of other Marvel animated shows as well as Star Wars Rebels. We’ve already seen the trailer for the new show coming in the fall, but now the first clip has arrived, revealing that this series will reveal more backstory about our characters than the feature film did.

Leading up to the premiere of the Guardians of the Galaxy animated series, Disney XD is releasing a series of two-minute Origins shorts, showing the backstories of Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer and Groot. And new a tease of Star-Lord’s origin story has been released online, showing his first meeting with the Ravager named Yondu.

Star Wars Rebels Second Season Premiere

The premiere of the second season of Star Wars Rebels is just a couple weeks away. We’ve already seen the season premiere thanks to Star Wars Celebration (check out our video blog from afterwards here), but everyone else has been waiting patiently. And now we have a new tease of the second season’s one-hour first episode, The Siege of Lothal.

It looks like Darth Vader is going to play pretty prominently, at least in this first episode, as he’s been dispatched by the Emperor to hunt down our heroes. Watch the Star Wars Rebels second season premiere teaser after the jump! Read More »

Guardians of the Galaxy

Two years ago, most people had no idea who the Guardians of the Galaxy were. They were so unknown, in fact, that a lot of the early marketing poked fun at the Guardians’ relative obscurity. (“Who?”) But one record-breaking summer movie later, Star-Lord is the hottest rising star in Hollywood and Groot is everyone’s new best friend.

They’re so popular, in fact, that they’re now getting their own TV show. Marvel announced today that an animated Guardians of the Galaxy TV series will be coming to Disney XD in 2015. Hit the jump to see the first Guardians of the Galaxy TV series test footage and key art.

Star Wars Rebels - Sabine

We’ve met a few members of the Ghost crew from Star Wars Rebels already, including Kanan (Freddie Prinze Jr.), the Han Solo-esque “cowboy Jedi”; Ezra (Taylor Gray), the 14-year-old con artist; and Zeb (Steven Blum), the intelligent muscle. But as cool as these guys look, none of ’em would stand a chance against the Empire without the proper equipment, and that’s where Sabine (voiced by Tiya Sircar) comes in.

According to the newest promo for the Disney XD series, Sabine is a “feisty” weapons expert who loves to blow things up, when she’s not creating graffiti art. She also happens to be a Mandalorian, meaning she’s from the same culture as the beloved Boba Fett. Hit the jump to watch her intro and learn more about her.

Star Wars Rebels

Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm led to the creation of new films, but it also spelled the end for a bunch of the studio’s other properties. Among those were Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which “wound down” earlier this year after five seasons on the Cartoon Network.

But the galaxy far, far away isn’t staying off the small screen for long. Disney has just announced the start of production on Star Wars Rebels, a new animated show coming to Disney XD in 2014. Get more information and an early behind-the-scenes look after the jump.

Disney’s decision to move forward with a new Star Wars movie trilogy has been discussed nonstop for the last few days, but somewhat less attention has been paid to the fact that the studio now owns rights to Lucasfilm’s properties in other media as well.

For the past five years, Star Wars: The Clone Wars has been airing on the Turner Entertainment-owned Cartoon Network. With Disney taking over the franchise, however, it will probably move over to one of Disney’s own channels when it completes its current season in 2013. More details after the jump.
