A whole lot of the supernatural horror/thrillers that have shown up in the past few years haven’t been terribly inspired; the intersection between budget, ideas and real scares rarely seems to be at the right point.
But The Possession looks like it might be a bit different. Based on an LA Times article called ‘Jinx in a Box‘ and originally titled Dibbuk Box, the film features Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kyra Sedgwick, Madison Davenport and Natasha Calis in a story about a young girl who awakens an old evil. There’s a lot of small casting news today. Let’s kick off with word that Spongebob Sqaurepants himself, Tom Kenny, will once again lend his voice to a robot in the third Transformers film, Dark of the Moon. He voiced Skids (one of the generally reviled ‘racist’ bots) and Wheelie in the last film, but we don’t know what character(s) he’ll be voicing this time. [Popeater]

Sam Raimi has had his name linked to dozens of projects within the past couple of years, but finding out if he’s actually going to move forward with any of them has mostly been a waiting game. Here’s at least one we can confirm: Dibbuk Box, a horror/thriller that’s said to be in the vein of The Exorcist and The Shining. Raimi is producing the film, along with his Ghost House partner Rob Tapert. The plot centers around a haunted box, and the evil curse it unleashes upon the unsuspecting family who acquires it.
It’s based on a true story.
