Yesterday we saw the first three official stills from Craig Gillespie‘s 3D Fright Night remake, which stars Colin Farrell, Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Toni Collette, and David Tennant. The shots were pretty low-quality, though. Now we’ve got high-res versions of those images, complete with three more high-res images, and two magazine scans.
None of these show enough vampiric action for my liking — and none have David Tennant; get an early look at him here — but they might be worth a look, anyway, especially on a slow Friday. Read More »

Casting is heating up for The Hobbit. While the majority of the characters unique to the actual novel The Hobbit were cast last year, Peter Jackson has been turning to recruiting some members of his cast from The Lord of the Rings. So yesterday we had confirmation of the return of Andy Serkis and Ian McKellen. Along with that was word that Christopher Lee is likely to return as Saruman. We’ve got a statement from the actor about that, after the break, and a continuation of the David Tennant casting rumor as well. Read More »
Peter Jackson has, at long last, made an official announcement about who will appear in The Hobbit. He has confirmed Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins, taking over the role originated by Ian Holm in The Lord of the Rings. A great many other names were released as well, almost all of whom make up the large company of Dwarves that hires Bilbo to be their ‘burgler’ before setting out to kill the dragon Smaug and recover the dwarven treasure the dragon uses as a bed. All the names are after the break. Read More »
Last month, we reported that Martin Freeman, best known for starring roles in The Office, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and Sherlock was the first choice to play the lead role of Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit. Well yesterday, after news broke that the film had finally been given a greenlight and would start shooting in February, reports came in that the actor was officially cast in the role made famous by Ian Holm in the original Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Jimmy Nesbitt (Bloody Sunday, Waking Ned Devine) was also reportedly cast while the same report said that Michael Fassbender (X-Men First Class, Inglourious Basterds) and David Tennant (Doctor Who) were also being courted by director Peter Jackson. There’s more info after the jump. Read More »
Briefly: Here’s your first look at David Tennant (Doctor Who) in makeup and costume for his role as the new Peter Vincent in the remake of Fright Night. The character was originated by Roddy McDowell, at which point Vincent was a washed-up former actor turned TV horror host. Tennant’s version, as you can see, is a little different. And very Captain Jack Sparrow-ish.
The new version of the character is a Vegas stage magician, who gets roped (kind of) into a battle against a vampire (Colin Farrell) by a high school kid, played by Anton Yelchin. This banner seems to be part of the set dressing for the Hard Rock hotel where some scenes for the film are being shot, and it advertises Peter Vincent as a larger than life performer. Check out bigger pics, after the break. Read More »
Andrew Niccol is prepping I’m.mortal, a sort of sci-fi film with shades of Logan’s Run that already has offered the female lead to Amanda Seyfried. Now Deadline says the male lead has been offered to Justin Timberlake. The film is an explicitly 20-something skewed idea, in which people have to buy time if they want to age past 25. The Seyfried / Timberlake pairing could work well, and I like the idea of Niccol doing more original sci-fi.
After the break, Steve Coogan and Cillian Murphy take new jobs. Read More »
Update: As a few people have mentioned, Fright Night, which will be in 3D, also now has a release date: October 7, 2011. Amazing it has actually been given an October date.
The cast of the Fright Night remake, directed by Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl), has been shaping up quite nicely. The last major missing piece was an actress to play Amy, the girlfriend of Charlie Brewster (Anton Yelchin), the high school kid who discovers that a vampire has moved in next door.
Now the talented and rapidly up and coming Imogen Poots (28 Weeks Later, Me and Orson Welles, Solitary Man) has taken the role, and the film is all set to shoot in a few weeks. More details on how this version of Amy differs from the character in the original, plus some other thoughts on the remake, after the break. Read More »

If you’re a fan of the original Fright Night, the headline alone is probably enough to clue you in on which actor is playing what role in the remake to be directed by Craig Gillespie. David Tennant and Christopher Mintz-Plasse are now part of the film, and will play the sort-of mentor to and best friend of Charley Brewster (Anton Yelchin), who runs into trouble when a vampire (Colin Farrell) moves in next door.
