If you’re a production company attempting to Dark Knight-ize a literary classic, there are worse people to bring on than a guy who’s had a hand in all four of Christopher Nolan’s DC films to date. Batman Begins co-writer David Goyer has just signed on to direct the The Count of Monte Cristo, based on the book by Alexandre Dumas. It’s been about a decade since the story last made it to Hollywood, then with director Kevin Reynolds and stars Jim Caviezel and Guy Pearce (pictured above). Read on after the jump.

Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel has begun to screen and word is that it’s fantastic. We’d heard that executives at Warner Bros. truly loved the film and now, reports are coming in from other people too. (And from people who don’t have billions and billions of dollars potentially invested in the success of a rebooted Superman.)
In particular, JoBlo is reporting the film is nearly complete (save for the 3D conversion) and despite the somber tone the trailers suggest, the film is chock full of action. We’ll talk more specifics below. Read More »

With Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Caine, and Marion Cotillard all set to appear in Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises, it seems like Leonardo DiCaprio was one of the few Inception stars who wasn’t invited to the party. As it turns out, however, the production nearly did cast DiCaprio, as one of the most famous Batman villains.
In a recent interview, screenwriter David Goyer revealed that once upon a time, Warner Bros. had pushed for The Riddler to be the big bad in Nolan’s film, with hopes that DiCaprio would agree to play him. More details after the jump.

Briefly: In March 2010 Legendary Pictures announced that it would make a new Godzilla film. All the wrongs done by Roland Emmerich’s 1998 film would be made right, and we would get a sci-fi creature feature that stands up to the best films in the long-running character’s history. That was the idea, at least, but in almost two years since that deal was announced we still know almost nothing about what Legendary is doing with Godzilla.
We know that Gareth Edwards, director of Monsters, is in the director’s chair. We’ve heard that there will be other monsters in the film. David Callaham drafted a script, and last time we had any reliable word it was that David Goyer was writing a new draft. That was in July of this year.
Now there is a new writer: Max Borenstein, who wrote Art of the Steal, a draft of The Seventh Son and did some work on Legendary’s Jimi Hendrix movie. None of which tells us anything at all about what he’s likely to do with Godzilla, but that’s all THR has to offer.

Warner Bros. isn’t the only studio getting behind the idea of recasting the young life of Renaissance poster boy Leonardo da Vinci as an action movie. Last year, WB started working on Leonardo Da Vinci and the Soldiers of Forever, written by Marc Guggenheim (Green Lantern) from a pitch by producers Adrian Askarieh, Roy Lee and Doug Davison.
Now Universal has its own ‘young Leo’ film: a spec simply called Leonardo, by Jonny Kurzman, with Watchmen and Hellboy producer Larry Gordon producing. Read More »
