Brick Mansions trailer

This second Brick Mansions trailer, for the the Banlieue 13 remake that is also one of the late Paul Walker’s final films, relies on a moody cover of ‘Stand by Me’ to give it a little oomph. Not that the trailer really needs it, as the action (also featuring RZA and original B13 star and parkour pioneer David Belle) looks to be pretty hard-hitting and high-flying.

Luc Besson, who produced the original, scripted this remake, which opens in April. Watch the trailer below. Read More »

Shortly before his death in November, Paul Walker wrapped shooting on Camille Delamarre‘s Brick Mansions. The film is now headed for an April release, and the first trailer has just landed.

A remake of the French thriller Banlieue 13 (known in the U.S. as District B13), Brick Mansions features Walker as an undercover cop who must team with an ex-con (David Belle) to take on a drug kingpin (RZA) in the most dangerous tenement in a dystopian Detroit. It looks a little like what might happen if Brian O’Connor was dropped into Dredd or The Raid. Watch the video after the jump.

Here’s one more step in the career upswing of Paul Walker. As we wait for the action shenanigans of Fast & Furious 6 (and the inevitable seventh film) he’s lined up a starring role in the new version of video game series Hitman. And now he’s got another action pic — a remake of Banlieue 13, better known in the US as District B-13.

The remake is to be called Brick Mansions, and will be set in America rather than Paris. In an interesting twist, David Belle, the star of the original film and its sequel, will also appear. Walker’s character will be “an undercover detective chasing a weapon of mass destruction that was stolen by a drug dealer in the ghetto known as Brick Mansions. He seeks help from the incredibly agile Lino (Belle), who knows Brick Mansions better than anyone and is the only person not cowed by the drug dealers.”

Deadline says that Luc Besson and EuropaCorp set Camille Delamarre to direct; Delamarre edited Taken 2 and Colombiana.

After the break, Seth Gordon talks about his WarGames remake and the potential dramatic re-do of King of Kong, and we’ve got the first image from the remake of Danish TV series The Bridge, with the new version made by the director of Miss Bala. Read More »

So, that Americanized version of Pierre Morel’s French thriller District 13 we reported on back in 2009 is still happening, and it may have just found one of its stars. Paul Walker has entered negotiations to join the cast of the remake, which will be titled Brick Mansions and relocated to a city in the States (probably Chicago).

But the news isn’t all bad! Also on board is David Belle, who starred in the original and its sequel but will be playing a different character here. Plus, the script comes from Luc Besson, who co-wrote the original, and Robert Mark Kamen, who collaborated with Besson on Taken. More details after the jump.
