San Diego Comic-Con is many things to many people. For collectors, it’s both an opportunity to find something they’ve long desired and pick up new things that will only be for sale those four days. Action figures, ornaments, books, comics; you name the category, and there’s a Comic-Con exclusive.
With the limited edition poster craze lead by Mondo, Gallery 1988 and others, posters are becoming highly-sought after Comic-Con exclusives. This year, Mondo will again have their own booth filled with limited edition, exclusive delights; artist Kevin Tong will have his own booth for the first time ever; and three popular artists, Tim Doyle, Dave Perillo and Tom Whalen, will have have limited editions screenprints at the Huckleberry booth.

Dave Perillo is an artist we’ve featured on /Film for years. In fact, if the site goes down, it’s his art that comes up letting you know of the 404 status. He has an incredibly unique, geometric, retro-cartoonish style that lends itself very well to family-friendly fare. Breaking Bad, however, is decidedly not family-friendly. The juxtaposition of Perillo’s style and a subject like disposing of a dead body makes for a beautiful addition to the Breaking Bad Art Project. Check it out in full below. Read More »

Los Angeles’s famous pop culture art gallery Gallery1988 will be launching a new show next week at their Melrose location called “Please Post Bills”, an art tribute to Bill Murray. About 80 artists are involved in this group show that will be paying tribute to a comedic legend with prints, sculptures and original pieces.
The show will have its grand opening on Thursday November 3rd 2011, and will run through November 26th. But you won’t have to wait until the third to see some of the artwork as Gallery1988 have given us a bunch of images to premiere. We’ve also compiled some pieces around the internet. This Friday, Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles will hold the fifth Crazy 4 Cult art show, an annual exhibition which I’ve called the super bowl of pop culture art. I am so jealous of all my fellow Los Angelans who are able to attend this week. I’ll be away in Texas, but I can’t complain as I’ll be bringing back my girlfriend with me (the big move, exciting). The great guys at G1988 have given me a bunch of art from the show to premiere on the site.

Quentin Tarantino and the Coen Brothers are, without a doubt, three of the most revered filmmakers working today. The release of a new film by Tarantino or the Coens insights a Pavlovian response in most film fans as each writer/director has such an incredibly high success rate, we’re almost guaranteed to see, at the very least, a good movie, if not a great one. Pulp Fiction, Fargo, Reservoir Dogs, The Big Lebowski, Inglourious Basterds, No Country for Old Men, the list goes on and on.
Spoke Art, the team behind the recent Wes Anderson-themed Bad Dads exhibit in San Francisco is traveling across country to New York for their next big film-themed art show based on that fact. Quentin vs. Coens will be open from April 7-April 9 at the Bold Hype Gallery in Manhattan and includes work from over 100 artists who have interpreted their favorite films and characters from the films of Quentin Tarantino or Joel and Ethan Coen.
