Ivan Drago in Creed 2

Update: This past weekend, Sylvester Stallone posted a photo on Instagram with the hashtag #drago, which is yet another piece of confirmation that a member of the Drago family will be a character in Creed 2. Read our original article from July 5 below for speculation about how this might play out in the sequel.

Ever since Creed hit theaters in the fall of 2015, surprising us all with just how outstanding a spin-off of Rocky could be, fans have been wondering when/if a sequel would come together. Though MGM CEO Gary Barber once mentioned that he would like to get a Creed sequel together for release in November of this year, that’s certainly not happening. But that doesn’t mean the prospect of a sequel is dead altogether.

Sylvester Stallone has been taking to Instagram over the past couple of weeks with some interesting nostalgic posts that seem to hint at what’s in store for Creed 2. In fact, one of them seems to flat-out confirm what kind of territory the story could be heading, and it includes a face from the past who could really make things interesting. Read More »

creed 2 director

It may have been almost entirely snubbed at the Oscar nominations, but Creed is still a miracle of a movie and one the best entires in the entire Rocky series. And while Michael B. Jordan provides fresh blood and Sylvester Stallone supplies plenty of old soul, the film really works because of director Ryan Coogler. His stylish, intimate direction is a shot of adrenaline for a 40-year old franchise, leaving the door open for, yes, a sequel. Or even an entire new series of films.

creed review

A Rocky spinoff about Apollo Creed’s son may have sounded like a terrible idea on paper, but when Creed actually opened it was an unqualified success. Audiences loved it — it’s made $105 million so far in the U.S. and counting — and critics adored it. It made a creaky old franchise feel fresh again, without undoing all the earlier installments. Heck, it even won Sylvester Stallone a Golden Globe last night.

All of which is to say a Creed sequel was only a question of when, not if, and now we have our answer. MGM is reportedly eyeing a November 2017 release date for the film, putting it about two years after Creed‘s release. That’s the good news. The bad news is what this might mean for director Ryan Coogler‘s involvement.  Read More »

CREED

Creed just crossed the $100 million mark domestically at the box office. By this point, following the glowing reviews and the tremendous audience response, it’s fair to say director Ryan Coogler hit this sequel/spinoff out of the park. The film left you excited to see more of Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan), Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone), and Bianca (Tessa Thompson) taking on more personal and physical challenges.

Following the success of Creed, it’s been confirmed we will see a sequel, but it’s only a matter of when. Find out more about the Creed sequel after the jump.
