#SixSeasonsandaMovie isn’t yet a dead idea. NBC canceled Dan Harmon‘s show Community earlier this year, but it seemed like there was still a chance that it would end up with a new home. Talks with Hulu didn’t go anywhere, but Yahoo wants a show — and now Yahoo has the sixth (and last?) season of Community. The deal was announced today just hours before the cast’s contract collectively expires. More details of the Community Yahoo deal are below. Read More »

[UPDATE: There’s now a conflicting report from TheWrap, which reports that Hulu is still in talks with Sony Pictures TV. Their source does back up TVLine’s claim that another party has also shown in making Season 6.]
When Community first premiered in 2009, it seemed doomed to become a one-and-done. But in defiance of all expectations, it stuck around for five whole seasons, coming tantalizingly close to fulfilling its “#sixseasonsandamovie” destiny. Then NBC pulled the plug for real earlier this year.
There was a brief glimmer of hope that Community could still come back for Season 6 on Hulu, but now, sadly, that light has been extinguished. Hulu has reportedly “abandoned” talks to bring back the show, and with time running low it’s looking less and less likely that the Greendale Gang will be able to stage a comeback. A great many people watch Community via Hulu — it’s one of the streaming service’s most popular offerings — and now Hulu may be the home for the near-mythical sixth season of the show. When the show was canceled by NBC there was some talk that a place like Hulu could be the home for one last season. And while comments from the show’s creator Dan Harmon made that seem like a pretty distant possibility, conversations are taking place.
At this point that’s all it seems to be — like Hulu buying Sony TV a drink and slyly being all “so, you think you might wanna make a sixth season together?” But that’s better than nothing. Read More »

Seth MacFarlane‘s A Million Ways to Die in the West has fun with lots of Western archetypes: the humble farmer, the gun-toting outlaw, the hooker with the heart of gold… the time-traveling mad scientist? And of course, MacFarlane isn’t the only one eager to pay homage to the classic trilogy. Elsewhere, Gillian Jacobs spills the details on the Community–Back to the Future crossover that never was. Hit the jump to get the details and watch Doc Brown’s A Million Ways to Die in the West appearance.
What will happen to Community now that NBC has finally canceled the show following its fifth season? There was talk not long ago that made a sixth season sound, if not inevitable, then at least like something that could happen on Hulu or a similar digital service. But over the weekend, a new report painted that possibility as something much less likely than we’d previously thought. Capping everything off, Community creator Dan Harmon weighed in with words about his thoughts on the chances of a continuation. So will there be a Community sixth season after all? Well.. maybe? “Six seasons and a movie” was originally a joke within the world of Dan Harmon‘s Community. It then became a catchphrase and rallying cry as the show struggled from season three to four, and then onward. One way or the other, it seemed like Harmon’s beleaguered show would make it to the finish line. But the biggest possible roadblock to that sixth season has just been thrown up, as NBC has canceled Community following the show’s fifth season. Read More »

Is the old Community mantra, “six seasons and a movie,” actually going to work? the phrase was written into the second season of Community as a joke, but became a rallying cry for fans as the show struggled in ratings through the third season. Then there was the sub-par fourth season (produced without series creator Dan Harmon) and Harmon’s triumphant return with a fifth season that recaptured the show’s vibe, earned strong notes from critics, and held steady with a constant viewership. Now there’s talk of a sixth season, and it seems as if the Community movie isn’t even destined to exist only as a punchline. Read More »

Did you see Vince Gilligan on Community last night? The Breaking Bad creator had a cameo appearance on this week’s episode of the NBC comedy series. Gilligan appears as a Southern cowboy guide on a vintage VCR game played by Abed and Annie. He also appeared in a post-credits sequence with Gina Gershon. Watch both clips embedded now after the jump.
